For the last few weeks, students have been looking at the artwork of Joaquin Torres Garcia. For this unit, we examined what constructivist artwork is. Collectively we examined how he used icons and simple imagery to communicate an idea. We explored how his artworks reflected his interests and likes through his painting of anchors, fish and various other sea-related motifs. Students used this knowledge to design and paint their own paintings using their own interests.

Building onto students' understanding of Joaquin's use of bold line and strong colours, they have then been introduced Keith Haring's artwork. Students reflected upon his artwork and its purpose before creating their own representations

Grade 2/3

During the last fortnight, students have been learning about textiles through the use of weaving. Students created and designed their own simple loom in the shape of a llama. Once they finished creating their looms students added wefts to help them with the weaving process. Then they proceeded to create a weave using the under-and-over method. These weaves were to become the blankets of their llamas. Students were also given the option to add extra details such as as pom poms and googly eyes.

Grade 4-6

Students in the 4-6 have been busily creating mini-drawing tutorials in preparation for the upcoming art show. They have actively been involved in researching different people who create content related to developing drawing skills. In small collaborative groups, students were to select an object or item that they would like to focus on when drawing. They critically considered their selection based on their audience. The students then proceeded to create their recordings. In future, lessons students will develop their editing skills and examine ways to enhance their artwork using music and subtitles.
