Health and Physical Education

Foundation / Year 1

Over the past four weeks, our Foundation and Year 1 students have been immersed in exciting activities that have challenged them.

Our students have been practising "saltar a la comba" (rope skipping). Through this learning unit, they are not only improving their physical skills but have also learned about the concept of a steady beat. Starting with slow and fast steady beats, they've progressively evolved their skills, transitioning from jumping on the spot to skipping over a moving rope, which is boosting their coordination.

During The Collective, we are learning about the power of working together collaboratively.  They've explored how collaboration improves the fun of an activity and how learning from one another enriches the experience.

Year 2/3

In the past four weeks,  Year 2 and 3 students have been embracing both physical activity and healthy living, getting involve in learning experiences that nurtures their bodies and minds.

Outside the classroom, our students have been refining their "saltar a la comba" (rope skipping) skills. They are having many opportunities to improve their coordination, synchronising their hand and leg movements in a steady rhythm to successfully skip the rope individually. Students are progressing from simply looking at the rope to following a steady beat and coordinating their actions. Group skipping activities have been also introduced to create synchronised skipping routines.

Inside the classroom, our Year 2 and 3 students have been learning the importance of a balanced diet. They've gained an understanding of why junk food falls short in nourishing their bodies. Students have been able to identify the various food groups necessary for a well-rounded diet. This knowledge is crucial in guiding them toward making informed choices to maintain their overall health.

Year 4/5/6

Year 4, 5, and 6 students have been diving into the world of European Handball, a captivating sport that not only introduces them to a new game but also improves their fundamental movement skills.

Through their introduction to Handball, students are refining essential fundamental movement skills. From perfecting their overarm throws and passes to refining their dribbling techniques, they are acquiring a diverse skill set that improves their overall physical coordination and agility.

Beyond physical skills, handball is also teaching them essential teamwork strategies. The students have been provided with opportunities to learn about different defensive tactics, including marking opponents, blocking passing lanes, and using zone defense. These tactics are not only applicable to handball but also offer valuable insights into effective collaboration in other team sports.

Effective communication is another skill that our students are developing during these lessons. They are learning to coordinate and communicate effectively with their teammates to achieve shared goals, demonstrating the power of collaboration.

Yours faithfully,
