School Council Report

By Tim Smith

School Council Meeting - 30th August

The meeting started with the review of the Principals Report. The main talking point was the Workforce Plan and the school class structure for next year.

This will be shared with the community by the school before the end of term, with opportunities provided to receive further information.

Students will be prepared for any changes during term 4 as they begin their transition into their next grade.

The Finance Sub Committee presented the Draft Hiring & Leasing Framework to be used by the school. This will primarily be used for hiring out the new school gym after hours.

While it will generate some income, it's designed to make the school facilities accessible to the community at an affordable rate.

On the OSHC front, the Team Kids info night was held on the same night (Wednesday), with a recording of this session being made available for those that could not attend.

The OSHC Staff Handbook was also presented and reviewed by the Council. A very comprehensive and informative guide for the OSHC program.

The PFA acknowledged the success of the Comedy Night and the hard work done by many people. But particular thanks was given to Claire Moore for pulling the whole thing together including the silent auction, and Declan Fay for wrangling an amazing lineup of talent. They raised a total of $4k. The PFA are now deep in planning for the School Fete in November.

The Naplan results were discussed in some detail. Naplan was completed by 59 Grade 3 students and 30 Grade 5 students last term.

While it's difficult to make a direct comparison to the previous year, as the Education Department has changed the grading system from bands to proficiency levels, overall the school has seen a strong improvement across most disciplines.

The plans for the School Sleepover for the younger kids, and School Camps for Grades 3 through to 6 were also presented and approved for next year.

This was the last meeting for the year for Luke, as he'll be away in Spain for term 4.
