Learning and Teaching

Dear LPS families and friends,

Senior School Camp

You may remember Mrs. Harvey writing about the importance and value of learning experiences outside the classroom in a previous issue.  Last week, Mrs. Mowat and I had the opportunity to attend the Senior school camp to witness this firsthand.

The camp provided our students with great opportunities to practise upholding our school values and recognise the importance and embodiment of these values beyond just the school environment. It was wonderful to see so many of our students uphold our school values during this time. Students were required to navigate and use values such as resilience, respect, and acceptance when trying new activities, being in groups with, and problem-solving with students they may not traditionally spend time with, and being responsible for keeping their cabins tidy and packing their bags (and rolling those tricky sleeping bags!).

Students were also required to use their Learner Profile Traits at various times throughout the camp.  We saw students collaborate daily.  Whether it was working together as a duty group to ensure all tables were set, or activity groups working together to create a raft that would float or supporting partners through the ropes course, students were required to use different skills of collaboration to be successful.

We saw many students (and staff…yes, me!) use the Learner Profile Traits of accepting challenges and persisting when overcoming and attempting activities such as the high ropes and the giant swing.  We were proud to see many students encouraging others through some challenges to build up the confidence to try and complete different activities.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who attended the camp.  Activities like this can only happen with careful planning, support, and staff spending time away from their own families to provide these opportunities for students.

Student Led Conferences

We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to listen and learn as your child/ren shared their learning progress and growth through our Student Led Conferences (SLCs) on Tuesday. Students have communicated that they were proud and enjoyed sharing their learning goals and how they achieved them with their families.

Students shared that reflecting on which Learner Profile Trait best helped them to achieve their learning goals made them realise how often they draw on these traits to support them in their learning and become better learners.

Teachers have reported that students were very articulate in communicating their thinking and learning.  As a school leader, it makes me proud to know that students recognise the learning process and what helps them to improve and be successful.

Happy Father's day to all our wonderful dads for Sunday, have a brilliant weekend everyone,

Kristine Roose,  Assistant Principal | Learning and Teaching
