We continue to be so impressed with the positive attitude and growth mindset being demonstrated by our students. It was great to meet with families this week to celebrate successes and set some goals for the remainder of this year, which is sure to fly past!
Reading: Students have commenced a unit of exploring the purpose and features of non-fiction texts. Each student has been set individual reading goals and reading response prompts at their level and we encourage parents to ask about these as part of their child’s ‘at home’ reading as well.
Writing: As part of our non-fiction study, Year 3 students are currently undertaking a research project on an animal of their choice. They are exploring how to structure an information report, including considering what questions they wanted to investigate, appropriate sub-headings, writing in our own words and creating a glossary for topic specific vocabulary if needed. They will end this unit by publishing their work as a poster for display.
Maths: Students have continued to build their understanding of fractions and have been applying that understanding to problem solving. Our Geometry unit has continued, exploring the visual representations of 3D shapes such as nets and cross-sections, as well as investigating transformations such as flips, slides and turns. We will end this unit by learning that angles are a measure of turn and learning to identify and compare angles in everyday situations.
Humanities:
Families have no doubt heard how excitedstudents have been about their Humanities project, building a balloon powered car as the conclusion of our unit on forces and functions. Here is a snapshot of what we have been doing:
Today I was focusing on trying to make the wheels stay on the stick and trying to put the sticks on so they wouldn't fall off. -Kayla 3C

We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.
Year 3 Team
The Year 4 students are powering towards the end of term 3.
In Maths, students have been investigating different units of measurement. Students have been engaging in activities investigating which units are used to measure length, area, mass, volume, and capacity. We have completed different hands-on investigations to further develop our understanding in the topic.
In literacy, students have been engaging in different non-fiction text learning ways to synthesis information from the texts. By synthesising, students have been able to build on their knowledge of topic areas while also learning strategies to find creditable information online.
Students visited the Ballarat Wildlife Park. Students were lucky enough to be able to get up close and feed some of the local residence of the park. Students used the experience to gain information about different animals’ habitat and life cycles which they will be using to create an information report in literacy which also links back to our Science unit for this term.

Year 4 Team
On Wednesday the 23rd of August, the Grade 5 students set off to Camp Rumbug. The Grade 5 students were involved in various activities that involved lots of teamwork and resilience.
Here is an update from our students:
At year 5 camp we went on the giant zipline which was roughly 30 metres high and even longer length ways. When we were choosing who was going to go on first, nobody wanted to go, but after I had a go, everyone was eager to go again. It felt unreal and was extremely fun! - Phoenix 5A
At camp we participated in the mud run. It was a fun experience, as I got out of my comfort zone and enjoyed the time I had with my friends. I had fun staying up with my friends, talking about irrelevant but funny things. Camp was an amazing experience! - Johnny 5D
We went to camp Rumbug on the 23rd to the 25th of August. It was 2 and a half hours (not including our stop). Both of our favourite activities where the Flying Fox. It was a really fun experience but the bad thing was the traffic going back. - Jairah and Irena 5C
My highlight of camp was the mud run! We all needed to work together and we had lots of fun in the mud! - Montana 5E
My highlight of grade 5 camp was the low ropes course. I had fun doing the challenges and learning to trust your friends when you fall! – Jade 5E
The best part about Year 5 camp was the flying fox. It didn’t feel real flying through the sky, but it was so much fun! – Olivia 5B
Year 5 camp was so exciting. The best part was hanging out with my friends in the cabins. I did so many things I didn’t expect to do, and it was so much fun! -Dia 5B

One term left of primary school now! We are very excited for camp and graduation!
In Reading, we have been looking at the text features and structures used in informative texts. We have been exploring a range of non-fiction texts to identify the tone, audience, and purpose so we understand the author’s intentions!
In Writing, we have been creating our own information reports for our passion projects. This means we got to choose our favourite topic (sport, animal, country etc.) and write an engaging fact sheet all about it. We have been experimenting with different fonts, size, diagrams and other text features to make sure we create an engaging piece of work on our iPads!
In Maths, we have been collecting data and representing it in many different ways. We have been surveying the class about graduation and getting excited for our end of the year! Look at some of the ideas we have come up with for graduation!
In Science, we are focusing on chemical reactions and changes! We conducted a rust experiment to see what causes metal to rust. We worked in teams to set up our experiment with different variables, look at how these reactions!
We have had a fun time with our buddies in SMP and in our classrooms. Check out these pet rocks we made with our prep buddies!
