Men’s Shed Seymour Community Project – Picnic Tables
Since early in Term 2, Year 11 and 12 VCE VM students have been visiting the Men’s Shed working with the generous volunteers from the Men’s Shed to produce four picnic tables for the College. Students have been taught many skills and shared many stories. It has been a privilege to be a part of the project and I know the Year 11 and 12 students will share their work with pride. After a few finishing touches the tables will be ready for use by the students in the next week.
We look forward to thanking the Men’s Shed next week and presenting them with the donation from our Pizza Day to support their community group helping support those in the community for years to come. We would also like to thank Maxi and the Maintenance team for helping us throughout the project.
Salvation Army Clothes Donations
We collected an amazing donation of quality clothing this year which was all donated to the Salvation Army Seymour. A huge congratulations to Seth and Angela for their work organising and implementing this project and to all of you who took the time to donate to our project thank you.
Free Fruit Trial
Week 6 and 7 saw the implementation of our free fruit trial as a way to help students who
may have forgotten to eat breakfast or bring a healthy snack. We have had a huge response across the school and will deliver our findings to school leadership in the next few weeks. A huge thank you to Coles Seymour for their donations towards our project. We are so grateful to have had your support to run our trial. A huge congratulations to Natalie and Olivia for their work in organising and carrying out the project and thank you to Ms Hill and Ms Maskelyne for collecting the donations.
Pizza Day for the Men’s Shed
Another project, another huge success. This was a huge project to undertake and we congratulate Micah, Jackson, Oliver, Ethan and Travis for committing to the project and ensuring that it all ran smoothly. Over 600 slices of pizza were packaged and delivered to classes and every Year 12 VCE VM student contributed to the success of the day. Well done Year 12 VCE VM for showing great commitment and dedication to teamwork and supporting each other.
Thank you to all those who supported this event but especially Stephen and his team at Puckapunyal Pizza & Pasta, who worked with the students to supply us with and deliver the pizza as well as helping support the project with a generous discount.
O’Brien Ice House
On Tuesday September 9, the Year 11 and 12 VCE VM classes headed to O’Brien Ice House for an ice skating lesson followed by a free skate session.
The Year 12 students showed their growth in directional skills taking charge and directing the group, without fault, to O’Brien Ice House from Southern Cross Station.
On arrival at Ice House we were given a safety brief and skates and helmets were organised for each student and those staff participating. Following this our instructor Amy took us all for a lesson, teaching us how to skate correctly, including balancing, stopping and falling safely. I congratulate each and every student for putting on the skates and giving it a go. It was something the majority of students had not tried before and by the end of the session everyone had developed their skills. It was great to see students helping and supporting each other to improve, giving each other tips and encouragement.
Fathers Day Stall
We are blessed to have talented students who now walk into a kitchen and own it! The VCE VM team worked in a buddy system and created the 12 new recipes, not previously practiced. They blended, cooked, iced and measured to create treats for the Parents and Friends Fathers Day stall. Hopefully you may have enjoyed caramel slice, spicy meat rub, Yo'Yo's or some ANZAC slice.
