Year 10

This term has brought success, personal growth and some challenges in the year 10 space. Students have demonstrated resilience and adaptability with the amalgamation of the two classes into one, and they have settled into their new routine and structure.

Year 10 students have actively been working to complete Unit 1 in all subject areas and have been provided with an up-to-date academic progress sheet to track any outstanding pieces of work needing to be satisfactorily completed and submitted. Any students who feel they require additional time to complete work tasks, or are finding themselves behind in task submissions are strongly encouraged to attend the after school catch up sessions which are scheduled fortnightly on Tuesdays and weekly on Thursdays from 3:15pm - 4pm.

Term 3 also saw students learn how to create a podcast and utilised their time at Whittlesea Technical School to create a podcast to raise awareness about some health and wellbeing challenges that males and females face, on the back of last terms' Boys and Girls group sessions. This was followed up with slogans and images printed on stickers using Canva to promote their topic and showcase their learning.

Year 11

The year 11's have been working diligently and enthusiastically to complete coursework throughout term 3.

Students had the opportunity to attend the Amazing Destinations Excursion and navigate their way through Melbourne CBD to demonstrate their knowledge of direction and dimension. This excursion provided them with skills such as adaptability, flexibility, teamwork, collaboration, organisation, planning and leadership. Students were able to participate in this excursion with enthusiasm to make their way to 5 locations within 5km of Federation Square within a certain timeframe.

This was an amazing achievement for the year 11’s and gave students a sense of accomplishment as they were able to demonstrate their maturity to take part in an amazing experience.

As part of their PDS subject, students were able to work together and create a Community Issue and Animal Walkthrough Exhibition. This display consisted of a diorama, brochure and visual presentation to educate the rest of the college on the impact certain community issues can have on endangered animals.

We have had the privilege of watching the year 11 students’ grow and flourish into young adults, we wish them nothing but success and happiness as they enter their final term of 2025.

Year 12

Term three has been an extremely productive term for the year twelve students, who are in the final preparations for meeting the graduation requirements of the VCE VM. The students are to be commended for their focus, effort and commitment towards completing the coursework required across the areas of study, for the four VCE VM subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development Skills (PDS) and Work-Related Skills ( WRS).

I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the year 12 staff; Ourania Dounias, Paris Mantz, Vici Petrovski and Cindi Carr; who have worked tirelessly to support the students.  This has included working one-on-one within class time, providing lunch time and after school support to the students.

The students have also been completing their VET studies, either internally at Peter Lalor Secondary College, or at an external provider; as well as Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), with an employee.  It takes a great deal of maturity and personal endeavour to complete these tasks, with many students navigating these requirements independently.

There were many incursions and excursions throughout the term. These have included:

  • Alfred Hospital P.A.R.T.Y. program
  • Personal Development Skills: Guest presentation
  • Financial Literacy: Salvation Army presentation
  • Personal Development Skills: Guest presentation – Choices and consequences
  • Personal Development Skills: Community Engagement - OX Care: Epping

As the students prepare for their final few weeks of the academic year, I urge all students to openly communicate with staff regarding work outcomes to be completed. And I encourage that all students continue to plan for their future pathway’s options going into 2026 and beyond.
