Education in Faith

Sacrament of Confirmation

Please see the link below for information from the parish about the upcoming Confirmation Mass (Wed 8 October).

Family Led Sunday Mass

During 2025, the Parish in conjunction with the Parish Primary Schools, has planned Family led weekend Masses. These Masses will be celebrated once a term and be followed by hospitality.  They will be a great opportunity for children and their families to be involved in a Mass within the parish community.

Family Masses will provide an opportunity for families to come together and to support each other in faith.  They can particularly be important for families who are presenting their children for Sacraments throughout the year.  There may be opportunities to reconnect with our own faith as adults.  There may be opportunities to engage with parish life and learn more about the faith, for those who are not so familiar with our local worshiping community.  All families are welcome at these family Masses no matter what your religious background or affiliation.

Family Masses scheduled for later this year are:

Saturday, 15 November at 6.00pm (OHR Church)

Prep, Year 1 & Year 2 and new families for 2026 are particularly invited to this Mass

RE Learning in 5/6DG

As the year 6’s are coming closer to their Confirmation, we have been researching about all the different saints we can choose as our Confirmation names. Together we have been learning about all the different gifts of the Holy Spirit, they are: Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Fortitude, Counsel, Piety and Fear of The Lord. They are all Godly values saints displayed in their journey of finding the Lord. We were all assigned a task to research different saints, this included a biography, explaining the gifts they show, and our own personal reflection.

The year sixes who are receiving Confirmation have attended the commitment mass at OLGC, where they committed to following God's words. They had to participate in different activities such as finding what gifts of the Holy Spirit you show and what a picture of the Holy Spirit showed and what you believe the photo shows.

Fr Sang scored an amazing nutmeg goal, such an amazing person.

For the year 5’s, we do a modified version of what the year 6’s do. Instead of us doing a saint we research a spirit filled person like family or inspirational people that made a change to our world. Examples of this include Eddie Mabo, Malala Yousafzai, Jane Goodall, Moira Kelly and many more!

Once we have decided on a person to study we put all of our research and information that we have gathered onto a poster and display it in our classroom for all to see.

Parents in the morning can come into the classroom to see all of our posters!

Sunday Gospel

The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Great crowds accompanied Jesus on his way and he turned and spoke to them. ‘If any man comes to me without hating his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple. Anyone who does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

‘And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it? Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, the onlookers would all start making fun of him and saying, “Here is a man who started to build and was unable to finish.” Or again, what king marching to war against another king would not first sit down and consider whether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who advanced against him with twenty thousand? If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace. So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions.’

Discussion Questions

1. What is your favourite book or video?

2. How hard is it to choose only one answer?

3. Jesus tells us that choosing his way is not always easy. When might it be hard to do what Jesus asks us?

4. What are some good choices that we can make this week?
