LEARNING AND TEACHING NEWS- Vira Pirrotta

Book Week

Last week, our students had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week. The week was filled with exciting book-related activities, ending with our much-anticipated Book Character Parade. What a fantastic turnout it was! The school hall came alive with the joy and excitement of students, teachers, and families all joining together for the celebration.

The energy and enthusiasm were contagious, with cheers and applause from the audience making the event even more special. A big thank you goes to our parents, teachers, and students for the creativity, effort, and imagination that went into the costumes - everyone looked fantastic! Your ongoing support and encouragement are what make events like this such a success.

The Importance of Practising Basic Skills at Home

Just like reading, practising basic maths skills regularly makes a big difference to your child’s confidence and success at school. Skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication facts, division, telling the time, and recalling number facts become stronger when they are practised often in short bursts.

Regular practice at home helps children:

  • Build speed and accuracy
  • Strengthen memory and recall
  • Develop problem-solving confidence
  • Make connections between maths at school and real life

This doesn’t have to mean long homework sessions - quick games, skip counting in the car, practising times tables while walking, or asking your child to help with cooking measurements are all simple ways to keep maths skills sharp. A few minutes each day adds up and makes a big difference over time.

Our Junior students have recently completed their unit on Multiplication, and we are so proud of their efforts! They have worked hard on creating multiplication number sentences, using repeated addition, practising skip counting, building arrays, and solving worded problems. Here are some fantastic samples of their work.
