RUOK? Day

In recognition of R U OK? Day, our Student Engagement Team organised a wonderful range of activities to promote connection, wellbeing, and meaningful conversations among our students.

Activities included:

  • Biscuit decorating
  • DIY pinwheels
  • Badge making
  • Stress ball making

Students also enjoyed popcorn, hair styling, and ribbons to add a splash of fun and colour to the day.

👶 A Special Visit from Keeley’s Cause

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome some very special visitors to Melton Specialist School — former student Keeley, her mum Sharon, and Keeley’s new baby boy!

They visited us on behalf of their incredible charity, Keeley’s Cause, which provides iPads to children diagnosed with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. The charity was founded by Keeley and Sharon after experiencing firsthand the positive impact that technology can have on learning and communication.

During their visit, they generously donated 20 refurbished iPads, kindly provided by the State Emergency Service QLD. We feel incredibly fortunate to receive this donation and are excited to share this technology with our students to support their learning and engagement.

💛 A huge thank you to Keeley, Sharon, and Keeley’s Cause for their ongoing support and generosity!

🌟 MSS Showcases Best Practice at National Conference 🌟

Last week, Melton Specialist School proudly hosted a group of teachers and leaders from across the country as part of the 2025 Australian Association of Special Education (AASE) National Conference.

Visitors were treated to a highlights tour of our school, where we showcased some of our most impactful programs and practices, including:

  • School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support for Learning
  • Our Wellbeing Dog Program
  • Structured TEACCHing
  • Acknowledging and Celebrating the Traditional Custodians of the Land

Adding to the excitement, our School Captains, Jack and Kyle, represented MSS as Student Ambassadors at the conference held at The Rydges in Melbourne. They confidently introduced guest speakers and guided delegates to workshops and lecture rooms — a true display of leadership and pride.

We were deeply touched to receive this feedback from the conference organiser:

“All the delegates who went on the MSS tour said their tour was the best! They really enjoyed the contrast between other schools and yours. Their observations focused on the strong teacher-student relationships and the happy, engaged learners they saw. Your two students who introduced speakers were heartbreakingly confident, capable, and independent.”

We are incredibly proud of the progress and achievements of our school community. Thank you to all staff and students who helped make this experience so memorable!
