A message from Stage 1
It’s hard to believe we are already at the end of Term 3. How quickly the term has flown by! It has been a busy and exciting few weeks filled with learning, creativity, and growth. The students have shown great enthusiasm and resilience throughout the term and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
One of the highlights this term was the UNE Discovery Science incursion, where students engaged in a variety of hands-on learning experiences that sparked curiosity and wonder. We also had a fantastic time at the K–2 Cross Country, and we’re looking forward to the K–2 Athletics Carnival coming up in Week 2 of Term 4.
As we wrap up, we’d like to thank our Stage 1 families for your ongoing support throughout the term. We wish everyone a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 14 October, refreshed and ready for the final term of 2025!
Over the past 4 weeks, Stage 1 students have been exploring rich language features through the engaging text Some Smug Slug by Pamela Duncan Edwards. Our focus has been on expanding vocabulary and identifying alliteration in texts. Students enjoyed discovering new and descriptive words and applying them to create their own alliterative sentences, particularly when describing animals.
In addition to alliteration, students have also been introduced to Haiku poetry. They learned how to count syllables and structure a traditional Haiku. After brainstorming ideas around nature themes like summer, rainforests, and oceans, students created their own expressive and imaginative Haikus.
It has been a creative and language-rich end to the term, and we are proud of the students’ efforts in developing their writing skills and playing with words in fun, meaningful ways.
In mathematics groups, students have continued to engage in a range of hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and games to strengthen their understanding of number operations and apply their skills in meaningful ways.
These daily sessions have helped build confidence, encourage mathematical thinking, and support all learners at their point of need.
Over the past few weeks, Stage 1 students have been actively engaged in a creative and collaborative dance program. They explored movement as a form of storytelling, drawing inspiration from First Nations cultures and native Australian animals to express ideas through dance.
Students experimented with patterns, repetition, and rhythm, working both individually and with partners to create and mirror movement sequences. They also learned how to work in small groups to plan, rehearse, and perform their own original dances, using elements such as pathways, tempo, and body shapes.
The unit concluded with a performance opportunity where students showcased their group dances and reflected on their learning. It was a wonderful celebration of creativity, confidence, and teamwork!
