MINI CATHEDRAL, CATHEDRA, & RELICS PILGRIMAGE

2025 is a Jubilee Year, a special time in the Church for prayer and renewal, occurring every 25 years. Jubilees have a theme. The theme this year is Pilgrims of Hope.

Last Wednesday, we came together to learn about the Mini Cathedral, Cathedra, and Relics that arrived at our Church during a pilgrimage around our Diocese. Mrs Ryan and Father Abmar discussed the significance of a Jubilee and the importance of the Cathedral, Cathedra, and Bishop as key components of our faith, helping us understand our Church's history.

We also learnt about Relics, which are special items that are connected to Saints or holy people. We were able to view some relics of the following Saints:

  • St. Therese of Lisieux

  • St. Carlo Acutis

  • St. Giorgio Frassati

  • St. Mary of the Cross Mackillop and

  • St. Teresa of Calcutta

During the Jubilee year, the Church celebrates and reflects on the faith of the saints. The visiting relics help us remember their examples and inspire us to live our faith more fully. When we encounter these relics, we can reflect on how to follow in the footsteps of the saints and be exemplary models of love and kindness in our own lives.

We then joined together as a Parish community on Friday to celebrate the Jubilee as Pilgrims of Hope at Mass. Before Mass, we went on a Pilgrimage around our church, ready to enter as pilgrims and celebrate together. Thank you to Father Abmar for leading us during this special celebration.

During the upcoming holidays, I am fortunate to be embarking on a Pilgrimage to Rome.

As part of this experience, I will walk through the Holy Doors and partake in many Masses and spiritual learning opportunities. I look forward to sharing my learnings with the students upon my return to Sacred Heart next term.

SAFEGUARDING IN THE CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF ARMIDALE

Message from Bishop Peter Murphy:

"Safeguarding is at the heart of the mission of the Diocese of Armidale.

We stand to protect the most vulnerable, including children and adults at risk, and ensure this commitment is lived in all our parishes, in all our ministries and at all levels. This is not just because of our important legal, moral and spiritual responsibility, but because it goes to the very foundations of the teachings of Christ and is fundamental to human flourishing and development.

Where this has not been fulfilled, we sincerely offer our deepest apologies. With your help, we are committed to building a safe, nurturing Church where all may live and experience the true Gospel of Jesus Christ."
