VET
The Year 11 & 12 VET Agriculture students recently worked on landscaping for the new North Campus outdoor Volleyball court. They learned a range of landscaping skills from expert contractors and can use these skills to help them to gain employment once they finish school.
Year 9 & 10
The Year 9 and 10 Agriculture class has been working on habitat restoration around the North Campus dam area, as well as growing pumpkins for use in the TSC kitchen. The class is doing a wonderful job with this project.

Central Australia Camp
The Year 10 Central Australia camp was spectacular with 33 students and five staff having 11 massive days of adventure in God’s spectacular creation.
The staff team (Miss Paris Farr, Mr James Kumnick, Mr Sam Green, Mr Nigel Kuipers and Mr Ken Berry) were constantly amazed with the positive attitude and social acceptance of the students. It was a blessing to be involved in this wonderful experience.

VM
VM Moonlit Sanctuary working sessions
Year 10 & 11 VM students have done a wonderful job working with our community partner, Moonlit Sanctuary. They have been clearing dead plants from the Wallaby Walk area and have been blessed by spending time outdoors with the wildlife as well.
VM Balnarring Beach camp
Year 10, 11 and 12 VM students had a blast on the recent VM camp at Balnarring Beach.
The students took turns running activities for the entire group (40 students) and they catered for themselves, learning valuable budgeting, cooking, camping and cleaning skills. A massive thank you go to Mrs Ulli Austermann, Mr James Siede and Mrs Megan Penwarden for attending the camp and making it such a huge success.

VET Cookery
The Year 12 VET Cookery students recently used produce grown by the Year 9/10 Agriculture class to create spectacular meals. The paddock to plate concept is growing quite literally.
Thanks to our amazing Chef Naz for her guidance with the Cookery students.

Chemistry
Chemistry is always exciting, when we get to do things in the lab! Mrs Hadlow has made a guest appearance in recent days, running some of our Chemistry practicals.
The Year 11s have created colourful slime, seeing the differences in their structures when you add different amounts of borax. They also developed tests to observe the differences in their slime properties.
The Year 12s have been learning about oxidation and reduction reactions, applied to the idea of batteries, both discharging and recharging. They have seen how different reactions occur at each terminal and can predict what should happen based on the contents involved. This can also be used to turn water back into hydrogen and oxygen. Pretty nifty science!

Young Christian Thinkers
The Young Christian Thinkers Symposium was recently held at Crossway Baptist Church, bringing together students from Christian Education National (CEN) schools across Victoria to explore the inspiring theme, “Life in His Fullness.” Organised and hosted by Bayside’s own Teacher of the Year, Mr Sam Waldron, the event encouraged students to think deeply, respond creatively, and engage with important ideas from a Christian perspective.
Leading up to the symposium, students participated in the Catalyst Colloquium, where they explored insights from renowned Christian thinkers before preparing analytical and creative responses. At the symposium, teams from different schools came together to present their learning in a public forum.
Our students represented the College wonderfully, engaging thoughtfully and confidently throughout the experience. They will also be sharing highlights from the symposium and their presentations at an upcoming whole-school assembly.
Visual Arts
Year 7
This term, students learnt skills in linocut print-making, choosing an animal to represent in black and white. This finely detailed print of a zebra is by Tessa Milicic.
Year 8
During this term, Year 8 Visual Arts students studied the Impressionist movement.
After painting the college dam en plein air (outside) directly from nature in watercolour (as the Impressionist painters did), they then moved into the studio and completed an acrylic painting. Pictured: Mukundi Zangure and Logan Tickell’s excellent work (on display in P Block).
Also on display in P Block is an exhibition of wire sculptures by the Yr 8 class. These three-dimensional works include a single continuous piece of wire, attached to a re-used block of wood from the wood tech room. Mia Greenman’s work (pictured) demonstrates how the wire casts interesting shadows!
Year 9/10
On Tuesday 12th May, the Year 9/10 Visual Arts class made a special expedition into the city to view Australian and International artworks of significance at the NGV. The focus was on the emergence of abstraction in the 20th C and its continued significance in art today.
This term the class have been busy working on their own abstract paintings, based on a biblical story of their choice. The Art department are looking forward to displaying the finished works next term on the College walls.
