Principal's Message

It was wonderful for our school to make a donation to the Montrose CFA at assembly this week. Our student representative council (SRC) were excited to present a very large cheque to representatives of the Montrose Fire Brigade. A big thank you to our Parents Group who initiated the fundraiser in Term 1.
We made a profit of $2174.69 from our Term 1 sausage sizzle which was happily passed on to our local fire brigade. Harper and Sienna from SRC spoke about our school and community’s appreciation for the Montrose CFA for keeping us safe, particularly during the bushfire emergency that occurred earlier this year.
Emergency Services visit
As part of their studies in Humanities, our Year 5 and Foundation children both participated in incursions with local emergency services this week. The Year 5’s had a visit from Senior Constable Brendan. They were enthralled with stories of life in the police force and ways that they could ensure that they are kept safe. They particularly enjoyed visiting the police car. Kids are never too old to turn the siren on!
The Foundation students had a visit from the Montrose CFA. They were enthralled with their safety lesson and also really enjoyed their visit to the fire truck.
Miss McDonell Wedding
We wish Grace and Cam all the best for their wedding celebrations this weekend. It’s been a special week for Grace as the school has celebrated her special day. The Year 1 and 2 children have secretly been practicing a dance that they performed for Grace during their Year 1/2 sport session. Grace will be having a couple of weeks off and will return to Billanook as Mrs Grace Bolton!
Outer East Principal Conference
Billanook was asked to present at the Outer East Principal Conference earlier this week. A big thank you to Nicole Evans, Grace McDonell and Emma Cass for presenting. Our presentation was on ‘Enabling Learning’ with a focus on our systematic synthetic phonics approach. The teacher’s did a fantastic job demonstrating our practice to all the primary and secondary school principals in the outer east of Melbourne.
Father’s Day Stall and Breakfast
Parent’s Club are running two events for Father’s Day. First, we have the Father’s Day breakfast on Thursday 4th September. This will be held in the courtyard area. Please join us for a bacon and egg roll and a coffee or juice. All orders need to be placed through Spriggy Schools by 10am on Tuesday 2nd September.
Then we have the famous Father’s Day stall. This will be held on Friday 5 September. All children will have the opportunity to purchase from the stall. Gifts range from $1 - $12. It would be great if children could bring a shopping bag to take their gift home in.
A big thank you to our wonderful Parent’s Club for organising both of these special events and to all those who have volunteered to assist on the day.
Regards,
Michael Puddy
