Dear Families,

The Department of Education currently has a campaign running: Safe Crossings, Safe Kids.

The safety of our school children is a top priority. School crossings have special rules and are often a workplace for our School Crossing Supervisors. Your actions on and around school crossings help keep our community safe.

Safe behaviours at school crossings

As children travel to and from school, it is important for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to be aware and take extra care during these busy times. Following the road rules at school crossings not only keeps our community safe but is also the law.

To help keep our children safe, it is important for drivers to:

  • Slow down around school crossings to a speed slow enough to stop safely, if necessary.
  • Stop if a handheld “Stop” sign is displayed and give way when school crossing flags are displayed.
  • Stop and wait until the school crossing is clear of all pedestrians, including supervisors.
  • Stop if a child or adult is about to cross or is crossing, even if there is no crossing supervisor.
  • Never overtake a vehicle stopping or stopped at the crossing.
  • Never let children get in or out of your vehicle while stopped at a school crossing.
  • Respect School Crossing Supervisors – they are trained to support children’s safety.
  • Always watch out for children near schools and, if you see a school crossing, use it.

At school crossings, all road users need to be alert, including pedestrians. Always look and listen for approaching traffic from each direction before crossing. Pedestrians should ensure that drivers or riders have seen them and are stopping.

Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback.

The survey is designed to help schools gain an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Participation is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your involvement.

The results will help identify areas for improvement and professional development and guide our school planning and improvement strategies. Please watch your inbox for the survey link early next week.

2026 Prep Enrolment

If you have a child starting Foundation in 2026, please submit your application to the office as soon as possible. Paper copies are available from the office, or you can request an electronic version.

Dance

Our Tuesday dance sessions are progressing well, and we are very excited about the Dance Showcase at 9:10 am on Thursday 18th September. All families are warmly invited to attend.

District Athletics

On Friday 22nd August, around 45 children will be participating in the District Athletics. We wish all participants the very best for a fun day.

Late Arrivals – Parents/Carers must sign children in

We are still experiencing several late arrivals each day. We ask that families aim to arrive at school by 8:50 am, when doors open for Soft Start. Please remember that children cannot sign themselves in, it is a legal requirement that a parent or carer completes this process.

Book Parade

We are looking forward to our Book Parade at 9:10 am on Friday 29th August. We love seeing family engagement on this day, with younger siblings and parents/carers also joining in the dress-up fun.

Whole School Photo

On Thursday 7th August, we had our whole school photo taken. We look forward to displaying it in the school entrance alongside the photos from the first four years of KPS.

ICAS Update

The first ICAS assessments have been successfully administered. Participating students have completed ICAS Writing, Digital Technologies, and English.

Next week (18th – 22nd August), students will sit Science and Spelling Bee, with the final assessment – Maths – taking place in Week 6 (25th – 29th August).

Please note: Assessments must be taken in the allocated week to be eligible for awards.

Warm regards,

Loren Peavey
