Outdoor Education - Victorian Curriculum 2.0

Our Level 4 students attended their school camp at the Phillip Island Adventure Resort, Cowes, from Wednesday 20th August until Friday 22nd August. This resort with beautiful gardens, palm trees, swimming pools and two large lakes was home to our students for 3 gorgeous days.

Outdoor education is reflected in the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 in the F-10 Health and Physical Education curriculum area. Outdoor education engages students to develop positive relationships with self, others and with outdoor environments through interaction with the natural world. Distinct from outdoor learning, which is a broad term used to describe any learning outside the classroom, outdoor education usually involves residential or journey-based experiences to impart personal, social and critical thinking capabilities, physical skills, and subject-specific knowledge. School camps are a perfect example of this.

With perfect weather to compliment this wonderful camp, students took part in a range of activities including flying fox, giant swing, canoeing, camp cooking, archery, a campfire and a movie night. Students were able to collaborate with other students, staff and camp supervisors to build resilience, work with others and have a fabulous time!

The Victorian Curriculum 2.0 Health and Physical Education curriculum in primary school years includes swimming and water safety in an aquatic setting. By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.

From Monday 25th August until Friday 29th August, students in Foundation, 1G and 1B attended Healthways in Ringwood to participate in an intensive 5 day swimming tuition program facilitated by qualified swimming instructors.

Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers and our dedicated staff for making this valuable program possible.

1C, 1R and our Level 2 students will participate in their 5 day swimming program in Week 7 at Healthways.
