Principal's Message

2025 School Theme - Why Team, Why Team Westbreen

Assistant Principal’s Message

 Dear Westbreen PS Families.

It's hard to believe that we are in Week 5 and already half way into Term 3.  Our students have been displaying our school values and we thank families for their ongoing encouragement of these values within the home and in the community.

Book Week 2025

This week we celebrate Book Week. Across the entire week, students will be involved in focused literacy activities, an Illustrator visit from Charmaine Leddon-Lewis and they will have the opportunity to be selected to enter the fantastic reader raffle.

At Westbreen, Literacy and Numeracy is a focus every day as we believe that Literacy and Numeracy skills are the foundation to successful learning. A child that is literate and numerate has the tools and skills required to successfully participate as an active community member.

The highlight of the week will be our annual Book Parade, to be held this Friday 22nd of August, at 9:15am on the basketball courts. All members of Team Westbreen are welcome.

We encourage all students to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. Parents and Guardians, please note that the detail of such ‘dress up days’ is not necessarily the focus, participation is what we all love to see - so a little colour, the wearing of old clothes hanging around the home, the use of wrapping paper and ‘odds and ends’ in cupboards will all assist in allowing students to feel part of the parade.

The excitement is growing, and rehearsals are in full swing in preparation for our School Concert next Thursday 28th August.

Students leaving school grounds before school

It has come to our attention from members of Team Westbreen that some students, after they are dropped at school in the morning, leave the school grounds and then walk over to 7 Eleven. When we spoke to some parents regarding this, they were unaware that their child/children were doing this.

It is the expectation that when students arrive at school and enter school grounds, they remain on school grounds. Please discuss the importance of this with your child/children to ensure they understand the expectation and also for their own safety.

Bunnings BBQ- Saturday, 30th of August

Thank you also to volunteers that have signed up for the Bunnings BBQ on Saturday 30th of August at Bunnings Coburg for our school.  We would welcome more volunteers that could assist on the day. Please access the following link to volunteer:

We want our parents / caregivers / guardians to tell us what they think!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 18th August to Friday 19th September 2025.

All families have been invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to our office staff for survey guides in your language and if you would like more information.

Hats

As the weather begins to improve, we are seeing some great days of sunshine.  Along with this comes an increase in the UV index.  We encourage all students to bring their hats to school and begin wearing out in the yard – especially when the UV index reaches 3 or above.

On days when the UV index reaches 3 or above, we will make an announcement for students to wear their hats.  As always, we encourage students to also have their own sunscreen in their bag that they can also apply.
