Sacrament of Confirmation
Our Year 6 students have been preparing for their upcoming Sacrament of Confirmation. In this Jubilee of Hope year, we have been blessed with the opportunity for all our students to celebrate this special sacrament together at St Patrick’s Cathedral, alongside the Year 6 students from St James and St Joan of Arc. The Confirmation Mass will be held on Sunday, 5th October at 2:00pm. Please keep our students in your prayers as they continue their journey of faith and readiness to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Gospel Reflection - Sunday 24th of August
Gospel Reading
People will come from north and south, east and west, and take their place in the Kingdom of God.
Family Connection
This Sunday, Jesus reminds us not to take our place in God’s Kingdom for granted. In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus tells a story about some people who took something for granted and paid a price. It’s not enough just to “know about” Jesus — we are called to live as his friends every day.
As a family this week, take a few minutes to:
- Read aloud Luke 13:22-30.
- Remember special days – Think of all the times in the past year you celebrated someone in your family — birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduations, or anniversaries.
- Recall the gifts – Challenge each individual to recall what gifts were received on the day(s) on which he or she was celebrated.
Talk about everyday appreciation – These celebrations are wonderful, but Jesus calls us to show love and gratitude every single day, not just on special occasions. Emphasise that these specials days are intended to express appreciation in a special way but are not meant to replace the appreciation that we should always show. Point out how, at times, families can take one another for granted.
What presents or surprises were given? How did they make you feel?
In the Gospel, Jesus tells a story about people who thought they could enter a house whenever they wanted — but when the door was shut, they missed out. It’s a reminder not to delay showing love to God and to one another.
Family challenge: Over the next fortnight, choose one simple way each day to show appreciation — say “thank you,” write a note, help with a job before being asked, or pray together for someone in your home. Small daily acts open our hearts to God’s Kingdom.
🙏 Pray together as a Family
Loving God,
Thank You for inviting us to be part of Your Kingdom.
Help us to never take Your love for granted.
Teach us to show kindness and gratitude to one another every day, so that our home reflects Your love.
We want to walk through the narrow door by following Jesus closely.
Amen.
May God bless,
