Professional Learning Day – Wednesday 27 August

On Wednesday 27 August, staff participated in a student-free day that was highly productive and valuable for our ongoing focus on maximising student learning growth.

The day began with all teachers and education support staff engaging in professional learning delivered by Shannon Sargeant, our Instructional Practice Leader. This professional learning was centred around the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, with a particular focus on the Elements of Learning: Retention and Recall. Staff explored how the working memory functions and investigated strategies to help students more effectively store new knowledge in their long-term memory.

Teachers then moved into their Action Learning Teams, where they worked collaboratively to embed practical opportunities for retention and recall into their Units of Learning within each Faculty.

In the afternoon, Faculties continued developing their Curriculum Maps—the key documents from which we form our Learning Pathways. Our Learning Pathways are already in use across each unit of learning in Years 7 and 8, and will be extended into Years 9 and 10 in 2026 to facilitate point of need feedback and reflection.

Before finishing the day, teachers reflected on their achievements and shared strategies from earlier sessions.

Overall, it was an extremely productive day of professional learning. The knowledge and strategies developed will not only strengthen our curriculum but also enhance student learning growth and engagement throughout the remainder of the year.
