Hands on Learning

Ashley Roberts - Hands on Learning Teacher

The past few weeks have been full of energy and creativity in Hands on Learning. Students have been working on a range of projects, showing great skill and teamwork. What’s great about HOL is how it always gives back to the school community, whether it’s building useful things or improving shared spaces; the students' work makes a real difference.

Production Stage

We’re excited to announce that the production stairs and stage have been completed and freshly painted. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our Hands on Learning students, the new stage will provide the perfect space for our school production to shine.

Helmet Box

Another standout project has been building a sturdy and practical box to safely store helmets for our new set of bikes. Students creatively repurposed old pallets, carefully dismantling them to salvage the wood needed for construction. This project not only highlights the students’ woodworking skills but also emphasises sustainability and resourcefulness.

HOL Space

Adding colour and creativity to the school grounds, students designed and painted vibrant wooden flowers, which now bloom proudly along the HOL fence. These cheerful pieces not only brighten the area but also showcase the students' artistic flair and attention to detail.     Inside the HOL shed, the creative touch continues with beautifully wood-burned signs, giving the space a warm, personal feel and a sense of pride in ownership. In the garden, a touch of detail was added with red brick edging along the garden beds, giving the space a neat and polished look.     With Father’s Day approaching, they’ve been busy crafting personalised gifts, each one made with creativity and plenty of love.

Around the College

The team’s hard work extended to outdoor spaces too. The Year 12 area received a much-needed refresh with the addition of tanbark, creating a more inviting and comfortable environment for students to enjoy.      Students have crafted wood-burned signs to label trees around the College, helping to strengthen our commitment to sustainability.  To support the Wellbeing Team, students prepare cheese toasties each week, offering a thoughtful way for their peers to enjoy a healthy snack whenever needed. This kind gesture is warmly welcomed and deeply appreciated by the entire school community. We’re incredibly proud of the hands-on skills and positive attitudes shown by all the students involved. These projects not only build valuable practical abilities but also foster confidence, collaboration and pride in their contributions to the school community.

Stay tuned, there’s always something exciting in the works with Hands on Learning!
