Year 7 Food Studies

This semester in Food Studies, Year 7's have been learning about measurement, knife skills, washing up by hand and stoves. They have cooked, or will be cooking: cake in a mug, chocolate truffles, a ham and salad wrap and jacket potatoes.    Their Learning Pathway Progress task will be cooking and presenting French toast.

Year 8 Coding

Students in Year 8 are looking into the impacts of eWaste socially, environmentally and financially. They are developing coding skills to create webpages on eWaste, with the option to either use a block or text editor depending on their current skill level.   This is giving them an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of eWaste and research ways of being responsible with the resources that could be reused rather than end up in landfill.    Coming up on 9th September, students currently studying Coding will have the opportunity to head to Yarra Ranges Technical School to engage in some practical activities in relation to what we will learn next term. Keep an eye out for the event on Compass.

Year 9 and 10 Programming and Computing

Year 9 and Year 10 classes have been working on ethics in IT with a specific focus on the energy and resource use associated with Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing. Other areas are on the ethics around Digital Inequality, Copyright, Online Harms and Social consequences of online activities and job displacement due to Artificial Intelligence.    All Coding classes are preparing for their CAT by researching their chosen ethical dilemmas and applying the skills through webpage Coding classes since the beginning of the term.

Year 9 Wood

In Year 9 Wood we continue to fabricate our hinged lid boxes, as a part of further developing our hand tool techniques.    We have learned how to rebate joints to form the box and have started learning how to use the CNC cutter to burn unique patterns onto our lids.     These are all skills that will be further assessed in their CAT later this term.

Year 10 Electronics

Year 10 Electronics students have been engaging with digital electronics. We have learned how to integrate electronic components in circuits controlled by code and a micro computing device called an Arduino.    Some students have built a prototype bike light and have also started to work on an extension project based upon the old "Buzz Wire" game. The modern version will feature opportunities for more advanced technology, through code and electronic components such as miniature speakers, LED lights and perhaps some buttons for more control.     The Year 10 Electronics class has also commenced soldering a basic LED light circuit as part of their Blue Tooth Speaker CAT.

Year 11 Product Design and Technology

Year 11 Product Design and Technology students have been working on designing a sustainable product made from either timber or fabrics.    They have researched, generated ideas and drawn their product into their visual diaries, looking to start the production of their product by the end of the term.

Year 12 Product Design

Year 12 Product Design students have made a strong start to the production of the ethical production.    Luke and Hunter are making storage solutions.    John is making an arm brace for people who have arm injuries and is using 3D printing and textiles to make his product.
