Term 3 Sports News

Students are beginning this term by participating in a four-week unit focussed on soccer skills and games. At the same time, high-performing students are completing our field events: High Jump, Shot Put, and Discus. Throughout the soccer unit, students will develop fundamental movement skills and specific techniques. This week, they practised dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, defending, and teamwork through modified games. They also learned the routines and expectations for using the new oval, moving safely from one activity to another. All students will have the opportunity to practise key soccer skills and apply them in modified games within their class, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence in a fun and inclusive environment. 

Winter PSSA

Please see the round of 10 PSSA results below. A big congratulations to our Soccer, AFL and Newcombe Ball teams who finished their Winter PSSA season this week, and best wishes to all of our Netball teams who will compete in the semi-finals on Friday of Week 2.

Soccer State Knockout

On Wednesday 22nd July, Carlingford West Public School faced Kings Langley Public School in the boys' Soccer state knockout match and were defeated 4-1. Despite a strong effort and a goal from Carlingford West, Kings Langley dominated much of the game with solid teamwork and effective play. Carlingford West showed great sportsmanship throughout the match and gained valuable experience for future competitions. 

Basketball State Knockout

In Round 6 of the Boys State Knockout Basketball competition, Carlingford West came up against Wentworth Falls Public School. The game started shakily, with missed baskets and lost opportunities, and the lead changed hands multiple times. However, Theo, Jayden, and Kaixin soon steadied the team’s momentum. Tommy made a strong impact off the bench, scoring several valuable baskets to extend the lead. Once Ryan found his rhythm, he became unstoppable. Bryan was outstanding on defence, making several spectacular steals and saves.

A special thank you to Mr. Guo (Hanhan’s dad), Ms. Ling Pan (Tommy’s mum), and Mrs Yuqing Qi (Bryan’s mum) for generously taking time out of their day to drive the team to Katoomba for the match. Fortunately, arriving early helped as some players, including Ryan and Theo, were feeling unwell due to the high altitude.

Overall, when the team played cohesively, they secured a convincing 60-28 victory over Wentworth Falls. Now, we look forward to Round 7!
