Our First Student Parliament at CWPS
Last term, our school held the inauguration of our first Student Parliament. We have one goal - to make change on behalf of the school and hear the voices of our students. This first Student Parliament only consisted of only year 6, where we gathered in the hall during the middle session. We had 30 parliamentarians hosting.
Job Description
The Student Parliament has a total of 8 roles with Assistant Ministers with each position having on average of 2 assistants. The Secretary is responsible for managing agendas in meetings, taking detailed notes, keeping records and making decisions. They are also responsible for keeping track of Student Parliament related matters. Additionally the Sergeant of Arms is in charge of assisting speakers by identifying the members and organising the use of the microphone. They will also ensure meetings begin and end on schedule. They promote respect and cooperations among members during the meetings.
Prime Ministers
The Prime Ministers were the main parliamentarians hosting the meeting, calling on people to bring motions and making sure everyone voted truthfully. They also announced whether or not the motion was passed after every session.
The Minister and Assistants for Health, Safety and Environment + Communication and Media
The Minister and Assistants for Health, Safety and Environment are in charge of promoting awareness and important issues related to health, safety and environment. They will organise and lead campaigns or events related to their position. They inspect school grounds and raise safety concerns and work closely with school staff. The Minister and Assistants for Communication and Media are in charge of managing communication channels such as sharing announcements, updates and more. They are also responsible for liaising the school staff with communication.
The Minister and Assistants for Trade
The Minister and Assistants for Trade are responsible for managing lost property and organising lost property boxes and assisting students in finding their correct belongings. They will support Year 6 uniform checks and encourage students to wear the school uniform with pride. They are also responsible for hosting and setting up school events.
The Minister and Assistants for Education
The Minister and Assistants for Education are responsible for academic matters. Their role is to share the student body's opinions on learning and classroom conditions. Working on student groups and education programs, and initiatives. They will advocate for better access for education resources and technology. They also will help promote respect, inclusiveness and support within the learning environment.
The Minister and Assistant for Inclusion and Diversity
The Minister and Assistant for Inclusion and Diversity are responsible for raising awareness about the importance of inclusion, diversity and respect within our school community. They will organise events related to their position. They will also monitor and report on any inclusion and diversity issue that affects students and encourage all students to take part in school activities and decision making.
Minister and Assistants for Sport and Recreation
The Minister and Assistants for Sport and Recreation are in charge of promoting involvement in school sport, teams and physical activities. We will advocate for students' needs and ideas related to the sport.
The Minister and Assistants for Technology and Innovation
The Minister and Assistants for Technology and Innovation are responsible for the advocation of new technology in learning and school activities. They will support innovative solutions and represent the student voice.
Motions
Over the course of our Parliament, we had some motions brought to the table; more sanitary toilets, FOGO bins and more play space and activities. These motions helped the teachers and the other students with the important opinions that were brought up and mattersthat needed to be addressed. It truly gave not only the teachers but also the students a view of what refinements or enhancement the school needed.
Process of Motions
The teams that are responsible for the new motions now have to speak with the school executive team and Mrs Shipley. During these talks the team will explain how the students would like the new motion to work in the school and make a plan of action to roll it out. Mrs Shipley will ultimately have the end decision to go ahead with the new motion or not.
Our first student parliament went smoothly with great ideas being brought up and an awesome time of inspiration and encouragement to change our school for the better. We plan to host two more student parliaments this term, where we will be able to bring other grades to share their brilliant ideas with the school.

100 Days of Kindy
This term, we are excited to celebrate a very special milestone for our youngest students - 100 days of school!
On Thursday 30th July, we will be celebrating 100 days of kindergarten learning, growing and having fun!
We ask that your child comes to school dressed up in something to represent 100. Your child can dress up as a 100 year old, or anything to do with the number 100. We will be participating in activities to celebrate that the children have completed 100 days of school.
On the day, we would also like all children to bring in 100 of something. This will form part of the activities on the day. It could be 100 paper clips, 100 buttons, 100 pieces of Lego - whatever you and your child decide.
Please ensure these are in a labelled snap lock bag.
