JUNIOR HOUSE ATHLETICS

PREP – GRADE 3

On Thursday 6th of August, we held our annual Junior House Athletics Competition. Students from Prep to Grade 3 proudly dressed in their house colours and enthusiastically competed in a variety of events. These included high jump, sprints, tunnel ball, baton relay, frisbee and bin throw. The Junior House Athletics Competition was a great success with parents/guardians coming to support and encourage students as they participated and tried their best. Many students were recognised for their outstanding efforts, earning ribbons and gaining points for their house.

Thank you to the House and School Captains for the preparation in organising and running the Junior House Athletics Competition and making sure all students had an enjoyable time.

The winning house from the Junior House Athletics, will be announced at assembly on Friday 14th August. Stay tuned...................

SENIOR HOUSE ATHLETICS

GRADE 4 – GRADE 6

Our annual Senior House Athletics was also a great success last Tuesday 4th of August which was held at Morrison Reserve, Mt Evelyn. Students in Grade 4-6 also proudly dressed in their house colours and enthusiastically competed in a variety of events. These included 800m, hurdles, shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, 100m, 200m, 1500m and shuttle relay. Even though we were faced with typical Melbourne weather on the day, the students still gave it their all, representing their house colours beautifully and competing to the best of their abilities. Thank you to the many parents/guardians who braved the weather and supported our students and cheered them on from the sidelines. Many students were recognised for their outstanding efforts, earning ribbons and gaining points for their house. Students who won a ribbon will now choose two individual events to compete in at the District Athletics on 25th August and represent Lilydale Primary School.

The results from the day are as follows;

1st Place – Castella House

2nd Place – Goode House

3rd Place – Ingram House

4th Place – Melba House

Science

This term, the whole school is learning chemical science- all about matter and their properties. The grade 1/2 students have been learning about the properties of food. They made spaghetti art with cooked spaghetti, and built towers out of raw spaghetti and marshmallows.

The grade 5/6 students have been learning about states of matter and the properties of liquids.

Grade 3/4 are testing properties of materials and will find out what materials are better for the environment by seeing if they decompose or not.

We continue our exploration of art around the world in Visual Art at LPS!

A sneak peek of the Grade 5/6 Emu Art inspired by Ronnie Reko, an Indigenous street artist.

Colourful unicorns made by the Preps in celebration of the book "Never Let a Unicorn Scribble!" by Diane Alber.

The Grade 3/4 have been exploring The Netherlands and Van Gogh's happy sunflowers. The Year 1/2 students have been busy building cardboard roll U.K. Kings Guard soldiers to display in next term's Grandparents Day Art Show.

The artroom is always a busy learning space full of colours and imagination!

Performing Arts

The time is almost here! This is our last week of rehearsals before we hit the beautiful stage at George Wood theatre.  This week Prep- 4 students continued rehearsing songs and dances and practised as whole year levels. Classes also had the opportunity to watch parts of the performance, allowing the 5/6's to practise having an audience.

A whole school Dress Rehearsal took place today and there was excitement everywhere!

The 5/6's have been putting their whole heart into the preparations, making suggestions, offering ideas, and assisting with posters and props. Things are are looking glittery and fabulous!

Here's a sneak peak at what's coming next week.
