Prep
The Prep students have had a fun-filled fortnight! They celebrated 100 Days of Prep, an exciting milestone that marks 100 days of learning, growth and new friendships. Students enjoyed a class party and a range of fun activities to celebrate the occasion. They also participated in House Athletics, where they demonstrated excellent teamwork, persistence and determination.
In the classroom, students have been developing their understanding of data and graphing by collecting, representing and analysing data to answer simple questions. They have also begun learning simple addition through hands-on activities. In phonics, students have focused on the digraphs wh, th (voiced and unvoiced), and ck, along with the double consonants ll, zz, ss and ff. During reading, they have continued building their decoding skills by practising flipping vowel sounds and chunking words to read unfamiliar words.
In Inquiry, students have been exploring Australian animals by learning about new marsupials, including the possum and Tasmanian devil, and monotremes such as the platypus and echidna. They have enjoyed labelling the features and writing informative facts about each one. One favourite fact was that baby platypuses are called puggles.
Grade 1/2
It has been another busy and exciting fortnight in Grade 1/2!
In Mathematics, we have been developing our skip counting skills and exploring number patterns. Students created colourful skip counting kites to showcase their learning—our maths skills are certainly flying high!
In Literacy, students have continued researching and writing their Australian animal information reports before transforming their work into engaging PowerPoint presentations. We have also been learning about Author's Purpose, exploring why authors write texts to persuade, inform or entertain.
In Topic, we have continued reading and discussing Dreaming stories, including How the Koala Got a Stumpy Tail, Bunjil and Tiddalick. These stories have sparked thoughtful conversations about Aboriginal cultures, storytelling and the important lessons these stories share.
We have also been busy rehearsing for our upcoming school concert. The students are working hard to learn their songs and dances and are becoming more excited each day as the performance gets closer.
Yesterday, we had a fantastic time competing in our House Athletics day. Students enthusiastically participated in a range of events, including frisbee throw, sprint races, relays, high jump, tunnel ball and the bin throw. It was wonderful to see everyone showing great teamwork, determination and house spirit while cheering each other on.
