Kindergarten were so lucky to have pre-service teacher Mr. Mahoney in our classroom over the last few weeks. In the short time he was there, Mr Mahoney developed a great rapport with all the children and taught many thoughtful and engaging lessons. We wish him well for his future teaching career.
This fortnight, Year 1 students have been exploring the world of measuring length using informal units! We had lots of fun choosing different items to measure our maths books and discovering which ones worked best. The class experimented with blocks, cards, and even dice, learning how different units give different results. It was exciting to see everyone using their problem-solving skills to find the best way to measure. Great job, Year 1!
This week, Year 2 we were visited by Ranger Cookie to learn about Taxidermy, insects, habitats and engaged in
Year 3's Reconciliation Celebration
This week, Year 3 are joyfully celebrating their Reconciliation. On Monday, we gathered to prepare for this special event. The day included learning about Reconciliation through dance, touring the church, and working on our confessions. The events were expertly facilitated by Cheryl Fernandez (Youth Ministry and Church Engagement) and Lucille Gravina (Family Educator). As you can see from the photos, it was an enjoyable day filled with learning!
Year 4 has been writing persuasive texts which are focused on Australia’s notorious villain…or hero, Ned Kelly. They have been choosing a perspective to argue for or against Ned Kelly and his gang. They have been referring to a personalised checklist to assist with their writing goals. Year 4 has blown everyone away with their persuasive arguments, keep it up!
Student Spotlight: Introduction arguing that Ned Kelly is a villain from the perspective of a police officer. Written by Shraddha, Frenchie and Elka.
Shots swept across my face, almost killing me. Sweat, rolling down my back, feeling like I am in a marathon gone wrong. Shadows of Ned crawling around me, no-one's safe at this point. The Kelly gang is truly a disgrace to Australia! Can you imagine thinking you are a hero after robbing a bank? How can anyone think Ned is not a savage? And there’s more, he killed 3 of my mates and he is only 12. He didn’t just steal, he also stole an innocent horse. Can you imagine how he is going to grow up? Definitely not a gentleman!
Recently, Year 5 has been learning about Area. We explored new units of measurement such as hectares. We look at how one hectare equals 10 000 metres squared. To put this into perspective, we created square metres on the basketball court.
Year 6 Student Spotlight
Hi, my name is Sienna and I’ve been at St Margaret Mary’s since the beginning, in Kindy. I’ve seen this school change greatly throughout the years from new murals to different teachers to changes in uniforms and I’ve grown throughout the years. Lots of memories have been created and my personality has been shaped through the support from my teachers, friends and experiences. I have got to experience the little things in life that make me, me. Like the colour fun runs, when the Today show came to school and camp where my favourite memory was archery. These days the sports I do outside of school are: water polo, swimming, nippers, board training and I used to do netball (but the season finished for the year). Sport in school is fun because we are learning to play volleyball. My favourite subjects in school are English, Maths, Drama and Public Speaking. My favourite place in the school is the playground, where lunch, school assemblies, sports and much more have taken place. One of the many things I like about school is how long lunch is because, after a lot of hard work, you enjoy the break even more. When I leave to go to high school I will always remember the memories that have built my character and I’ll never forget all my friends. This school has taught me many things, but the thing I will remember most are the supportive teachers who have guided me through education, friendship and everything in between.
