Last week, I decided to rearrange the furniture in my office. It wasn’t something I had planned, but when our handyman, Murray, popped in to say hello, I asked, "How hard would it be to move the furniture around?" As always, Murray rose to the occasion, and the big move began.
My office overlooks the playground, so as the furniture was shifted, a group of curious children gathered at the window, puzzled by the activity. Some even wondered if we were “selling the school,” as though we were preparing for an open house! But it wasn’t just the students who were intrigued by the change. Staff, parents, and volunteers who visited my office were also curious about the new layout.
This got me thinking about change...
Change is a natural part of life, and it’s important to remember that with every change comes new opportunities for growth. For our students, especially Year 6 and the incoming Kindergarten class, change will be a big part of the coming months.
Our Year 6 students have worked incredibly hard over the past seven years, and they are now ready to take on the challenges and adventures that high school will bring. While this transition can feel daunting, it also opens the door to new friendships, subjects, and experiences. We are so proud of how our Year 6s have embraced the changes throughout this year—whether through the growth of their academic skills, the development of their independence, or the way they’ve supported each other as a team.
To support them through this significant transition, we have engaged Cameron Brown, a renowned leadership facilitator, to run a Transition to High School Day for our Year 6 students. This special day will help prepare them for the next chapter of their educational journey, equipping them with the tools and mindset to face the challenges ahead with confidence.
During that week, Cameron will also be facilitating a Leadership Day for our Years 4 and 5 students. This day will provide them with valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and work collaboratively with their peers. It’s a wonderful chance for them to start thinking about their own roles as leaders within our school community.
Our students from Kindergarten to Year 5 are also experiencing their own journeys of growth and transformation. Every year brings new challenges, whether it’s adjusting to a new year group, exploring new subjects, or building stronger connections with friends and teachers. While change can sometimes feel unsettling, it is also an exciting opportunity for each student to develop resilience, confidence, and a sense of adventure. We encourage all of our students to embrace these changes with an open heart and mind, knowing that each step forward is an important part of their unique learning journey.
Maroubra Police will be visiting our school to conduct a special educational session on cyber safety for students in Years 3 to 6. During this visit, the police officers will share important information about staying safe online, including how to protect personal information, recognise and avoid cyberbullying, and use the internet responsibly. This initiative aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the digital world safely and confidently. We encourage all students to actively participate and ask any questions they may have during this informative session.
