Junior Summer Series
We have just finished the new Junior Summer Series mountain biking ex-activity for the term. We had an enthusiastic and motivated group of 10 riders, with myself and Dave Atkins organising and instructing the sessions.
Sessions:
- Race techniques and timed dirt crit laps
- Riding fast lines and downhill timed event
- Drafting techniques and Westside adventure
- Carving corners and navigating technical lines along Skyline
- Ascending Alice – timed uphill runs on Eastside
- Timed downhill runs
- Eastside Adventure Ride
We finished our final session with a celebratory adventure ride around Eastside. Heading out onto Skyline and making our way on to Aherre, to finish via the Rock Garden heading towards the Telegraph Station. With thanks to the Outdoor Education Department and the Central Australian Rough Riders (local mountain biking club), David Atkins organised a BBQ feast for the riders that evening. Finishing off with a dessert Zooper Dooper of course.
This series has been super fun, we have some great junior riders in town and it has been wonderful to facilitate this ex-activity that supports our students and is open to the local community as well. I have a real passion in developing juniors' riding skills and giving them a safe and supportive environment to learn and build positive and encouraging relationships with others.
I hope to see many of these juniors more out on the trails or tackling some local events.
Thanks, Emma Shearer
