Year 9 Horticulture

On our excursions we've learned about many different kinds of plants and how to grow them. When we went to the Desert Park, we planted seeds and learned a bit about them.

We encountered a kangaroo with a joey in its pouch when we went to Olive Pink which was a very cool encounter to see them up close in the wild. We also saw a tree that had sweet white things on its leaves which was made by an insect. We found out the white thing was edible and tasted like sugar when you ate them, they were surprisingly very good and tasted like candy. We also learned about a bower bird's nest that is made by a male bird; it gathers plastic, sticks and other things like that and if you take away the plastic and put it somewhere else it will take it back and put it in its nest again. A female bower bird will find the male bird attractive based off of the quality of the nest. That's just a few of the many things these excursions have taught me.

Overall, we've learnt many things about plants and how they work. We've learned how to grow them and that some are in fact edible.
