Kitchen garden

The Level 3/4 students went on camp so we took it as a great opportunity to let the 5 and 6 students have a turn in the kitchen.

To just come in and have a cook would be a bit boring, so the Iron Chef Challenge was born!

Each class selected a country as a cooking focus in small groups. The children then researched and researched to find the perfect dish or meal. A budget was set and criteria for presentation, taste and authenticity were outlined. Over the next few weeks each group worked on their country theme and provided us with an ingredient and equipment list.

When our cooking day finally came around the benches in the kitchen were full of produce and recipes ready for the big cook. It was the first cook in our kitchen for this group of students and anything could happen.

Wow, our students shone in the kitchen. They worked together making sure everyone had a job, and worked through recipe disasters and challenges. We only used 3 bandaids!!!!! Had some tears of pride from teachers and “yums” from the judges. The Iron Chef competition was a fantastic fortnight enjoyed by all. We had dumplings, cream horns, Italian flag pasta, crepes and much more.

Well done kids you really impressed us with not only your cooking skills and knowledge but also pulling together as a group was my absolute favourite part.
