2025 Secondary Class Allocations
2025 Class Allocations (Repeat)
As we prepare for 2025, staff are beginning the process of class allocations for students. Primary students will be allocated to a class teacher and Secondary students will be allocated to a Home Group. Secondary students will be with their Home Group classes for core subjects but will be with a mix of students for their option and streamed classes.
SCC has a procedure in place for allocating students into classes each year. Classroom teachers and the leadership team will be working together to determine class placements based on the social, emotional and academic needs of students, to ensure classes are balanced and provide optimal learning and teaching for all.
Factors taken into consideration when allocating students to classes include the following:
- projected number of students in each year level and past trends
- gender ratio
- spread of students with respect to academic performance, social development and classroom behaviour
- optimum provision for the student’s education needs
- special circumstances such as twins or individual family members
- classroom observations
- friendship considerations that foster suitable working relationships in class.
It is acknowledged by all that friendships are important. However, to ensure balanced classes as outlined above, friendship groups are not a primary determining factor in class allocation. The parents of Secondary students can nominate three students who they would like their child to be with in the class. This will help inform staff about student placement. Staff will endeavour to place students with at least one of their nominations; however, we cannot guarantee placements together.
If there is information relevant to your child’s learning or social needs about which you feel the College may not be aware, please share this information through the Class Consideration Form during the consultation phase in Week 5, Term 4. This should not include a request for particular teachers.
Class allocations for the year ahead will be communicated to students and parents in the final week of Term 4. More information is available on our website.
