STEMIE Success!

Our Year 10 students have made us incredibly proud by reaching the finals of the National STEMIE Competition, competing against 400 students from 75 schools across Australia! Although we didn’t take home the top prize, their remarkable achievement speaks volumes about their hard work and the dedication of our staff involved: Satchet Singh, Innika Ackerley, Jeremy Hughes and Alyssa Leach.

A huge congratulations to Asher Harten, Frances Whittle, Hayley Cheng, Jaydon Albrecht, Oliver Hutchinson, Olivia Vasilev and Rohin Jani for their perseverance and commitment.

Student Reflections:

"STEMIE opened my eyes to the world of electronics, something I knew nothing about before. It gave me the chance to learn new skills and expand my knowledge in technology, which has made me think about pursuing a career in this field."  – Rohin J

"The competition was a fantastic experience, and the activities were so much fun. The challenges focused on teamwork and problem-solving, which are essential skills."  – Olivia V

"I really enjoyed the hands-on, timed challenges, especially those related to motorsports. The combination of different skillsets needed for the tasks made the project exciting, and the pressure of working both accurately and on time helped me gain a better understanding of my strengths and how to collaborate effectively with my team."  – Hayley C

We are incredibly proud of our students' accomplishments and excited to see how their passion for STEM will inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders.

Debating Success

The entire debating season was full of excitement, from team banter to discussing stimulating and controversial topics.

The 2024 debating season was a wonderful experience, which tested our collaborative and critical thinking skills.

The grand final was particularly eventful as we were given the challenging topic:

"That Australia should withdraw from the Paris Agreement"

What made it more eventful was that we were competing against our own school, a team made up of our closest friends. The debating season, as well as experiencing two teams in the grand final, was an astronomical feat, one that we will all remember for years to come.

After the grand final we were invited to Government House to collect our medals, another incredible experience which will provide lasting memories.

We are all incredibly grateful to our teammates, coaches and supportive friends and family for making this such a unique and special experience.

Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize Award Ceremony

Earlier this term, Year 9 student Amee Mann was announced as a winner in the Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize for 2024.

Amee was among the 19 award winners selected from more than 600 entries received from around the state.

On Tuesday, 19 November Amee was presented with her award at the Drill Hall, located at the Torrens Parade Ground in the city, by the Minister of Education, Skills and Training, The Hon. Blair Boyer, MP.

Amee offers some words of reflection:

“I am honoured to have received the Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize. It was a privilege to research and reflect on the bravery of our soldiers. I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to take part in the 2025 study tour to Vietnam and to learn more about the ANZAC Spirit. This award has deepened my understanding and appreciation for those who served, and I commend this competition to any interested Year 9 or 10 students.”

Once again, the College community heartily congratulates Amee on her outstanding achievement.

We look forward to hearing more about the preparations she will be making for her study trip to Vietnam with the other awardees next year.
