From the Leadership Team

What it takes

As many a wise person has said, `hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard’.

While most of you still have the Valedictory event ahead of you and would not have been a part of last night, I recommend you have a look at our end of the year celebration for our senior students.

As each student walked across the stage to collect their Student Achievement Record and stole last night, I found myself thinking, `What does it take to get here?’.  The answer is that it took something different for every student, but one thing they have in common was that it took hard work.

At some point every one of these students worked hard!  Every one of them stretched the limits of their natural talent and every one of them had to make a choice and at some stage to dig deeper into what it meant and what it was to be, a student at Endeavour College.

At some stage they had to step up and the mere fact that they were on the journey across the stage, means that they did.

It starts in Year 6, the very first day that an Endeavour student walks into campus for the first time as an enrolled student on their Transition Day. It builds with every conversation they have every and every choice they make. It is here that the small things matter. The choice to wear the uniform correctly, the choice to engage in every class, the choice to complete all work requirements, the choice to raise their hand to ask questions, the choice to sign up for an extracurricular activities, the choice to apply for a leadership position, the choice to speak kindly, the choice to really care about others and listen to how things are for them especially if different from their own experience.

All of these seemingly micro things matter, they matter every second of everyday from that first step onto the Endeavour College campus.

It matters because this is how we become the very best we can be.

When the Year 12s walked across the stage last night they were the very best they could be. They were celebrated for their academics, their contributions to sport, extracurricular, leadership, the impact they have on others and above all fulfilling the values of Love, Courage, Forgiveness and Hope as fundamental to being a student at this College.

As a College, at Valedictory, we were saying thank you and congratulations. What is critical to me, however, is that every student who walked across that stage was making a statement. They were saying "Here I am. I am graduating from Endeavour College and this is what I stand for." Perhaps some of them were themselves thinking, "how did I get here?".

I can tell them confidently how they got there.  They got there through hard work, by paying attention to the details that matter, for living the Endeavour Way and for building and being the very best they can be.

Vale and congratulations to every Year 12 graduating last night and welcome to every Year 6 joining us Monday who step into some big shoes that they too will learn to fill.
