CHILDREN CHATTER MATTERS
Building Pragmatics and Social communication skills.
Building on listening and two way communication. In this word wall activity, take turns in spinning the wheel and asking each other a question. Many players can play this game - in fact playing with peers is encouraged! Ensure students understand that they need to listen to the response and provide a meaningful question or comment to the answer.
Idioms
Idioms are common sayings used in our day to day language but often have a completely different meaning then their literal meaning (e.g. ‘thats the last straw’ does not mean ‘we have no straws left’, it actually means ‘i have had enough of this’). For some people non literal language can be very difficult to understand. Below are some word wall activities to support idioms, maybe you could ask your child their favourite idiom and challenge them to use it this week!
