Weekly Wrap: Year 12

In the past few weeks we have continued our Monday morning tea, having cookies and croissants, nuggets and pizza, and rice paper rolls and pancakes. With our Prep buddies we played pass the picture, where we all worked together to create amazing artworks. We managed to get through our health, psychology, PE, business, accounting and geography SACs, all in the span of a couple weeks. We’re very excited to finish off our last first term ever, with an easter egg hunt!

Year 12 Art

In Art Making & Exhibiting, Annie, Georgia and Poppy are currently experimenting with a range of materials, techniques and process, which form part of Outcome 1. The nature of their experiments and trials are guided by their selection of three inspiring artists who connect to a specific theme. Recent lessons have seen the production of soft sculptures, mosaics and water colour paintings.

Year 12 Geography

Joe has been juggling studying deforestation and completing his fieldwork on the land use change in the Bendigo urban growth zone at Maiden Gully. Fletcher still pops in to check up on us, and to join in with the weekly quiz.

Year 12 Biology

Zali, Joe and Fletcher have been studying DNA manipulation, which is a really complicated topic! They are working like troopers.

Year 12 English

Our year 12 VCE English class have been embracing their inner thespian through engaging with Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night. They have been performing the play in the process of completing Unit 3 Outcome 1. Kicking goals and getting ready for their assessment this week.

Year 12 Health & Psychology

Last week in Year 12 Health and Psychology, students completed their first outcomes of the year. The students have been working really hard, completing practice SAC’s and seeking extra help when needed. In Psychology, students have been learning about the nervous system and the gut brain axis; specifically, the importance of diet and its impact on mental health. In Health, students have just finished their outcome on the health status of Australia. The students should be commended on their efforts as we move into Outcome 2.

Year 12 General Mathematics

The General Mathematics class have spent the term working with data. All three students have explored the strength of relationships, learnt to test for linearity and transform non-linear data. They are working on making linear models which will allow them to make predictions.

Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga

Ten senior students from our region including Kaitlyn Pollock from Charlton, recently attended the CSU Explore Day to discover more about Agriculture and Animal Studies courses.

CSU provided informative sessions about their courses and had staff available to help with specific questions about entry requirements and pathway options for students. Students toured the 2000-hectare farm and observed the use of autonomous cropping equipment and the automatic scales in the lamb feedlot. They also looked at different animal skeletons and tried to guess the name of the animal and whether or not it was a carnivore, omnivore or herbivore.

The students were also fortunate to have an impromptu Q and A with current students; Josh Diss (East Loddon) and Alyssa Boyd (Boort), who provided them with an insight into the CSU student experience. Another highlight was CSU student Issy Morrison (East Loddon) providing a tour of her accommodation.

The students felt that the campus, had a very friendly rural atmosphere, and they could visualise themselves becoming students there.

Easter Raffle & Egg Hunt

Thank-you to those who have already purchased tickets in support of this years Work Experience program. This is a great opportunity to help the program while also having a chance to win some delicious choccies! If you miss the students at IGA, tickets are also available at the office.

Additionally, our popular Egg Hunt will be running again on the last day of term, so don’t miss out on the fun. It’s the perfect way to wrap up the term with some sweet surprises!

Careers in STEM Day

Join us for a STEM Careers Day, where students will hear from a panel of three industry professionals about their career paths and experiences. After the discussion, students will take part in four hands-on workshops, rotating through activities that showcase real-world applications of STEM skills. It's a chance to explore different career options and get a taste of what working in STEM is really like.

The panel is one hour with time to hear from each speaker, plus a Q&A at the end.

The speakers for Thursday 8th May are experts in:

· Cyber security

· Civil engineering

· Haematology

The four workshops will each run for 30 minutes. The presenters will engage the students in their fields of:

· Infectious disease transmission and modelling

· Data and algorithms in marketing

· Prevention and treatment of knee/ACL injuries
