Year Three - Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

Next week, students will reflect on what they have learned throughout Lent and Easter, considering how it has shaped their faith and personal growth. They will also explore ways to live out Jesus' teachings by being a light in their relationships and communities. To wrap up the term, they will complete a post-learning check to review their progress.

English Focus

For reading, students will engage with Off We Go Around Australia, a captivating story that takes readers on an adventure across the country, exploring its diverse landscapes, cultures, and landmarks. They will read fluently with expression and respond to comprehension questions to deepen their understanding.

In writing, students will refine their sentence-level skills by working with appositives and applying them correctly in sentences. At the text level, they will focus on explanation writing, recalling its purpose and structure while planning, drafting, and revising an introduction.

Mathematics Focus

Next week, students will be continuing their focus on formal units of time, including seconds (s), minutes (min), hours (hr), and days (d). They will learn how these units relate to one another and use clocks, calendars, and timers to support their understanding.

Students will apply their knowledge by reading and setting time on digital devices, estimating short durations, and using timers to check their accuracy. These skills will help them develop a stronger sense of time management in everyday situations.

Auslan Focus

Next week, Grade 3 students will revise what they have learnt this term through a series of books read to them in Auslan, games such as Packman, Down the line and Follow the leader. They will revisit important parts about Auslan culture and history and practice building their fluency on developing sentences using what they have learnt so far.

See if your children can teach you these signs!

Social Emotional Learning - Rights Responsibilities and Respectful Relationships.

Next week, Grade 3 students will explore the ways we are similar to and different from others, helping them develop an appreciation for diversity and individuality. They will also learn strategies to cope with challenges and stress, discussing practical ways to manage emotions and build resilience. Through class discussions and activities, students will reflect on their own experiences and gain valuable skills to support their well-being.

Last day of Term 1

This week's highlights...

As a community we gather together to watch the Assembly, celebrate awards, birthdays and discuss some reflection on our learning. We also talk about upcoming events and reminders around school wide expectations.

This week, we had the joy of witnessing our students take an important step in their faith journey during four wonderful Reconciliation sessions over two nights. It was a truly special experience, and we were honored to be there to support them.

While no photos were taken out of respect for the sacredness of the moment, the atmosphere was filled with reflection, growth, and celebration.

We are so proud of our students for embracing this sacrament with such sincerity and reverence.

Reminders

Students are encouraged to read each night. They are welcome to take the books from the class and community library. We also encourage visiting the local library and selecting books they enjoy reading.
