Year One - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Week 9

Jerusalem and Galilee will be attending Mass next Wednesday 2nd of April at 9:30am. Families are invited to join the students.

Religious Education focus: 

Students visited the Caritas Website and learnt about Lam's Story (Vietnam). Students learnt about differences in culture and how people who are differently able are treated.

Students in Galilee (Foundation) and Jerusalem gathered together to practice for next weeks mass. Students' voices rang out in glee as the joyful singing echoed through our halls.

English focus:We focused on new sounds "ee" and "ea". We discussed homophones, words that sound the same but have different meanings, like see and sea, or meet and meat. Students wrote a variety of sentences about families this week.

 

Vocabulary Words

Reading: 

Florence and the family tree was the book of the week and it showed the diverse range of people that can make up a family.

Mathematics focus: Students have examined using tally marks to count bigger numbers. They completed an investigation where they counted different amounts of items or colours  and completed tally tables. 

SEL: Students are using strengths card to explore appropriate behaviours on the playground, classroom and at home. They are creating roles to showcase their strengths.

History:  Students worked diligently over the last few and finally completed their family tree project. It was an arduous task that demanded focus and determination. Students could show the relationship and connectedness between family members.

 

AUSLAN: Students were tested on their ability to use AUSLAN in familiar situations.

Next week we are learning about... 

Religious Education focus: We will learning more about Mass.

English focus:We will be working on Stage 7 sounds of Little learners literacy. We will be reading 

Mathematics focus: We will continue to work on investigating data. 

SEL: We are working recognizing emotions and learning strategies to help students cope.

History: We are using Seesaw to showcase our work.

AUSLAN Focus: Students will be using signs in the classroom for lunch, toilet, listen and look.

  • All students are required to wear a wide brim hat for recess and lunch time
