Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families,

It has been another exciting week in Year 6! Alongside our learning, students had the opportunity to participate in the Cross Country trial, showing great determination and sportsmanship. Well done to all who took part!

Last day for Term One is Friday 4th April.

Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been working on and what’s coming up next.

This week we learnt about...

English Focus

Reading:  This week, we concluded our novel study of Rivet Boy. Students have enjoyed exploring the story’s themes, characters, and historical connections. Next week, we will wrap up our study with an assessment to reflect on our learning and understanding of the novel.

Writing:  In writing, students have been refining their sentence structures by using conjunctions (because, so, but) and adding appositives to provide extra detail. We are also putting the finishing touches on our persuasive writing pieces about child labour, where students have developed strong arguments and persuasive techniques.

Mathematics Focus

This week, we focused on interpreting, analyzing, and creating side-by-side column graphs and exploring different ways to represent data. These skills help students understand how data is used in real-world contexts.

Integrated Studies Focus

Our exploration of Federation continues as we examine its impact on Australia and how it shaped the nation we live in today. Students are engaging in discussions and activities to deepen their understanding of this significant historical event.

Social & Emotional Learning Focus

This week in SEL, we explored personal strengths, focusing on the difference between talents and character strengths. Students reflected on the character strengths they admire in themselves and others, helping them build self-awareness and appreciation for the strengths of those around them.

Auslan Focus

In Auslan, we revised Unit 2C, focusing on how each sign has a specific handshape, location, and movement. We also completed our assessment on Unit 2, demonstrating our understanding of how small changes in sign features can alter meaning.

Kind regards,

The Year 6 Team
