Health and Physical Education
Foundation
Foundation learners have been focusing on essential movement skills such as rotating, sharing, and taking turns during different fundamental movement skill (FMS) activities. These activities help students build confidence in movement, understand spatial awareness, and develop positive social interactions in a fun and engaging environment. By learning to take turns and share equipment, they are also building the foundations of teamwork and cooperation.
Year 1
Students in Year 1 have been continuing to develop their ability to share, take turns, and rotate between activities, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and patience. They have also been introduced to basic basketball skills, working on their dribbling, catching, and throwing techniques. Through small drills and modified games, they have been learning to control the basketball while moving, improving their hand-eye coordination and overall ball-handling skills.
Year 2
Year 2 students have been putting their kicking skills to the test in fun, team-based games such as cone soccer and team cone soccer. These activities encourage students to control the soccer ball with their feet while also introducing fundamental attacking and defending strategies. The games not only improve ball-handling skills but also teach students how to work collaboratively, make strategic decisions, and understand positioning on the field.
Year 3
In Year 3, the focus has been on developing basketball skills, specifically chest passing and dribbling. Students have been learning to accurately pass the ball to teammates and maintain control while dribbling in different game-like situations. These activities help improve coordination, reaction time, and teamwork, preparing students for more structured basketball gameplay as they progress.
Year 4
Year 4 students have been refining their catching, passing, and overarm throwing skills. These are essential skills that transfer across multiple sports, including netball, basketball, and cricket. Through a series of drills and small-sided games, students have been working on improving their technique, accuracy, and decision-making when passing and receiving the ball in different scenarios.
Year 5
In Year 5, the focus has been on Tee Ball, with a particular emphasis on catching and fielding using a glove. Students have been learning how to position themselves correctly to catch incoming balls, improve their reflexes, and work together as a team to make plays in the field. This unit has helped build confidence in catching and throwing, as well as reinforcing the importance of communication and strategy in team sports.
Year 6
Our Year 6 students have been engaging in Volleyball games, focusing on learning the proper rules and rotations of the game. They have been working on their serving, setting, and digging skills while also gaining a deeper understanding of court positioning and teamwork. By playing full games, they are experiencing the dynamics of competitive volleyball while developing their ability to communicate, anticipate plays, and support their teammates.
Whole School Cross Country
Last week, our Whole School Cross Country event was a fantastic showcase of determination, perseverance, and school spirit. Students from all year levels put in an outstanding effort, tackling the course with enthusiasm and resilience. It was incredible to see so many students challenging themselves, encouraging their peers, and embracing the event with a positive attitude.
A huge thank you to our dedicated staff and student helpers who ensured the event ran smoothly, and to our families for their support and encouragement from the sidelines. Congratulations to all participants—you should be proud of your achievements!
