Year 3 Team

Being in Year 3 is the place to be!

What an awesome first term we have had in Year 3! As we draw closer to the end of this term, it’s amazing to look back on all of the work and achievements our fantastic students have completed!

The students have completed NAPLAN this term and have demonstrated the qualities of our school values of resilience and respect in each and every session.

During Literacy this term, students have worked their way through a variety of texts that both celebrate and commemorate significant days and events that have shaped our nation. A heavy emphasis has been on the Aboriginal Australian people and their history previous to Europeans arriving. We have also explored what has changed since the arrival of Europeans and the impact on the Indigenous Australians way of life. We have looked into commemoration days like Sorry Day, Freedom Day and learned about famous Aboriginal Australian people and their achievements. We have also been working through building our reading abilities through daily fluency practice and learning about the parts of words and their meanings through our Word Origins program.

In Numeracy, we have focussed on a range of skills like addition and subtraction, length, odd and even numbers and Space - 2D shapes and 3D objects. The students have experienced a range of activities that have both stretched and expanded their knowledge and skills of working with both numbers and math strategies.

Our History unit has been entwined with our English units and the students have brought an inquisitiveness to each session wanting to know more of how Australia has been shaped. We have also celebrated the different cultures within our class and explored our own heritage of where we come from.

Each week during Year 3 Sport 3A & 3B have been taking part in a new challenge where they need to use their teamwork and communication skills to see which class are the champions for that week. It has been wonderful to see our students cheering each other on, strategising together, and celebrating both victories and setbacks as a unified team.

A fantastic term from all of our students and they all should be very proud of their efforts.

We look forward to our excursion to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens in the last week of term!
