Telling Time, All the Time: Year 3 Gets in Sync!

Learning Intention: We are learning to read and understand time.

Success Criteria: I will be successful when I can:

practice reading time on analogue clocks using hands-on activities

  • identify the time to the hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, and minute on an analogue clock
  • correctly read and write the time on an analogue clock

In Year 3, students have been busy learning all about time, and it’s been an exciting journey so far! From reading clocks to understanding time intervals, our enthusiastic learners have made great strides in grasping this important life skills.

One of the key areas of focus has been learning how to read analogue clocks. Students have been practicing telling the time to the hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, and even more specific times, down to the minute. With plenty of hands-on activities, like using clocks in the classroom, children are becoming confident timekeepers!

In addition to learning how to read the time, Year 3 students have been exploring time in a broader context. At the beginning of each month, they organise their calendars, setting up the dates for the upcoming weeks. Every morning, students take turns changing the date on the calendar, helping them develop a hands-on understanding of how time moves forward. Through this daily activity, along with organising their time schedules for the day, students are learning to plan activities and understand the importance of managing their time.

As we progress, Year 3 students will continue to develop these skills by exploring time intervals and duration. They will also deepen their understanding of how digital and analogue clocks relate to one another in measuring time. Our goal is to ensure they gain a strong grasp of time.

We are so proud of the progress our students are making in mastering the art of telling time!
