Art Activity Ideas for the School Holidays!

Our Art Therapist’s have collated 5 easy, low-cost and fun creative activities for you and your child to try these school holidays. These art activities aim to engage our students with nature, encourage creative thinking, offer opportunities for relaxation and focus, and most importantly: HAVE FUN!

Art making can offer us many benefits including helping us to self-regulate, express ourselves, build dexterity skills, practice communication skills, and promote our general wellbeing.

Click the PDF link below to access our art activities sheet with step-by-step instructions and pictures. Please share your artworks with us when you return, we would love to hear about all your creative adventures!

ACTIVE SCHOOLS

It has been a big term for our students with Health and Fitness.  Our Morning Fitness Program has been up and running since Week 3 and the level of participation continues to grow each week.  The Program is voluntary and is available to all students from Years 3-12 over 5 mornings each week.  This program is conducted by Jarrod Borg from Spectrum Health, and he has made a good connection with our students.  Our Coaches in Residence Program has also commenced for 2025 and is available via afternoon Health and Fitness sessions for students from Years 5-10.  In this program, students can choose from coaching sessions in Hip Hop (instructor Tracey Trinh), Football (soccer-with coach Djibril Diallo from the Western Football Academy)) and Tennis (with coaches Darren Ha, Michael Commins and Royden Patterson from DHA Tennis Academy). Once again, levels of participation are high, with students enjoying the ability to be able to choose which of these activities that they would like to participate in.  Both programs have been made possible via the generous funding from Active Schools/ACPHER Victoria.

SPORTING SCHOOLS

Once again, Jackson School was fortunate enough to gain funding from the Australian Sports Commission, Sporting Schools Program for this term.  Coaching programs in Tennis (Tennis Australia/DHA Tennis Academy), Netball (Netball Victoria), Football (Football Australia) and Basketball (Westgate Basketball Association) operated across four days each week, for 4 weeks commencing in Wk 3.  Football Australia is offering a 10% discount for Jackson Families wanting to see the Matildas play Argentina in May (see flyer for details).

JACKSON COMMUNITY RESOURCE DIRECTORY

Finally, with school holidays next week, I have included a copy of our Community Resource Directory.  This resource provides you with locations and contact details of local Sporting Organisations and Community Activity groups that you can link with if you are looking to get your child connected in a sport or activity, not just for the holiday period but throughout the year.  Most of these groups have been recommended to me by families that have previously connected to them, so that you may reassured that they are experienced with engaging our students.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

Ian Phelan
