VPC GOES BUSH
This term as part of VPC work experience, students headed out to Blackwood Special Schools Outdoor Education Centre, where most of the students have attended school camps. This time there was no camping, just time in the beautiful bush and work. It was great to put something back into a place that has provided great memories for the students and runs excellent and inclusive programs. Under the guidance of Blackwood teacher, Will, students did a range of tasks.
Collecting and stacking firewood, unravelling and re-threading a giant rope spider web, finding QR codes in the bush, painting and making bird boxes, which many of the students took home. Students learnt how to; use a variety of tools, rope threading, safe lifting and wheelbarrow skills, painting, teamwork and time management. We were fortunate that the weather was perfect most Fridays and it was lovely to get out into the bush for awhile and see visiting students enjoying the camp. The Jackson students were great to work with and I enjoyed seeing them demonstrate some excellent skills, especially when making the bird boxes. I, and I think the students, will miss not going there in Term 2.
Excursion to Big Battery
Looking at jobs in the renewable battery industry. Hon. Natalie Suleyman our MP, came to visit.
ASDAN students have been working so hard at Westvale this term. We have cleared our garden beds and started to plant new produce such as lettuce, spring onion, silver beet and various herbs. It’ s a lot of work but with such good, hard working students and staff progress has been quick! We will have more produce to plant next term and plenty for students to take home and share by the middle of May.
