Year Three/Four News

Werribee Zoo

Two weeks ago on Thursday 20th March, our Year Three/Four students attended an excursion to Werribee Zoo. Please find a recount written and shared at assembly by Willow B, Miller W, Damien M and Angie Y.

On Thursday the 20th of March, the Year 3/4s went to Werribee Open Range Zoo to help with our research about African animals. It took an hour and a half to get there, but we got there!

We started our safari bus tour at 11 o’clock. Our tour guide told us some fun facts about the animals while we drove around, including how the ostriches can run up to 72km/h. We saw some excellent animals along the way, including some giraffes getting fed by the keepers and a baby rhino who came right up to the side of our bus. After the safari, we ate our recess and saw lots of different birds wandering around.

We then started our walk along the African Trail. We saw cheetahs, wild dogs, gorillas, lions and monkeys. We really liked the lions, one was even having a sleep on top of a jeep right in front of the glass!

After that, we had lunch near the big gorilla statue and took some photos. We went through the Australian Trail before having a look at the leopard, tortoises and meerkats.

Before we left, we took a big group photo with everyone, including all of the teachers. Then we got on the bus just before it started pouring rain.

We had such a fantastic day and loved learning more about these amazing animals!
