House News

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

We have had a fantastic start to 2024, filled with learning, extracurricular activities, and community events that have brought us closer together. Here’s a look back at some of the key highlights of Term 1.

One of the standout events this term was our annual Swimming Carnival. Freeman students showed great enthusiasm and house spirit, with impressive performances in the pool and outstanding participation in novelty events. A big thank you to our staff and student leaders for making this day such a success.

Our Year 7 students had an exciting opportunity to visit the Melbourne Grand Prix, where they got a firsthand look at the world of motorsport. This excursion provided a unique learning experience, combining STEM concepts with the thrill of Formula 1. The students had a fantastic time exploring the pit lanes, meeting engineers, and watching the high-speed action unfold.

Throughout the term, we celebrated the achievements and contributions of women in our school and beyond. Activities included inspiring guest speakers, student-led discussions, and special classroom lessons highlighting the importance of gender equality. It was heartening to see our students actively engaging in meaningful conversations about inclusivity and empowerment. Well done to our student leaders, in particular our Freeman Student Leaders.

As we head into the Term 1 holidays, we encourage students to take the time to rest and recharge. Term 2 promises to be just as eventful. Thank you once again for a fantastic term. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another term of learning and growth.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable break!

A Message from the Freeman Captains, Chandrima & Jovana.

We’ve had multiple successful events this term, with swimming carnival being our first whole school event, although we did not win, we did have many participants and house spirit was achieved therefore making the day a success. However, we can redeem ourselves for athletics day.

It was great to see everyone participating in the events for Internation Women’s Day, including the trivia and message writing at lunch, and also dressing in the colours to represent and pay homage to the suffragettes who fought for women’s rights.

Also, shout out to the Street Art classes for the wonderful instillations for Close the Gap and Harmony Day, and the students who went to Bunjil Place to attend the Close the Gap Day event, and learning about what we can do to increase inclusion at school.

Finally, congratulations to the Year 7’s and 9’s for finishing their NAPLAN assessments, as well as the Year 11’s for completing their practice GAT.
