Hello Everyone,

Stand Up Project – Parent Session

As we continue to introduce the ‘Stand Up Project’ (SUP) to our school community, the time has come for our Parent Session. Our SUP Student Leaders will co-facilitate a session for parents with SUP Lead Facilitator, Liam O’Connell, on:

Thursday 8th May 3:45pm – 4:45pm.

A note will be sent home with students regarding this session. If an adult (or two) in your family can attend, please return the slip so that we can prepare the space for the session.

For example, if the letters are R, A, H, E, C, E, T you can make the words: each, ache, art, heat, eat, car, care, cart, teach, teacher.

You must use Australian spelling, and no acronyms or abbreviations.

Students collaborating for Week 1’s Challenge will earn a PAC each.

The students who can find the most words will receive an extra PAC.

Curriculum Update – Welcome to Term 2

Welcome to Term 2! I hope all of our families had a restful break and are ready for another productive and engaging term of learning at Deer Park West Primary School.

This term, our teaching teams are using assessment data from Term 1 to guide their planning and ensure every student receives the support and challenge they need. Our focus remains on strengthening student achievement in reading, writing and mathematics. Families can support this learning at home by encouraging daily reading and engaging in everyday maths conversations.

Students will also continue to explore our inquiry learning units. These are designed to build curiosity, encourage critical thinking and help students make connections to the world around them.

Our staff will be deepening their understanding of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, which supports teachers to deliver high-quality instruction and create consistent, effective learning environments across the school.

We are also pleased to announce that Foundation (Prep) enrolments for 2026 are now open. In the coming weeks, I will be visiting local kindergartens to connect with educators and families and share more about what Deer Park West Primary School has to offer. If you know families with a child starting school in 2026, please encourage them to get in touch with us.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your child’s learning. Should you have any questions about the curriculum or how to support learning at home, please don’t hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher or contact me directly.

Wishing everyone a positive and successful Term 2.

Staying Connected Through Seesaw

At Deer Park West Primary School, we are continuing to use Seesaw as a key platform for communication and sharing learning between school and home.

Students are regularly posting samples of their work on Seesaw, allowing families to see what they’re learning in the classroom and celebrate their progress. This not only helps strengthen the partnership between home and school but also builds student confidence and pride in their achievements.

We encourage all families to regularly check Seesaw and take a moment to share positive feedback with your child. A simple comment like “I’m proud of you” or “Great effort on your writing” can make a big difference to a child’s motivation and self-esteem.

If you need any support accessing or using Seesaw, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or visit the school office—we’re here to help.

Let’s continue working together to celebrate our students' learning journeys!

Kind regards,
