Maths at Sacred Heart – Term 1 Wrap-Up

Term 1 has been a busy and rewarding time for Mathematics at Sacred Heart! We’ve been focused on strengthening teaching practices and supporting students at all levels. Here are some key highlights from the term:

Targeted Student Assessment: Regular assessments have allowed teachers to personalise learning, ensuring students receive the support and challenge they need.

Maths in the Newsletter: We introduced a dedicated Maths section to keep families informed and share ways to support learning at home.

Fluency Superstars: Students mastering key milestones in Times Table Rock Stars were recognised with Gone Green Certificates, celebrated weekly at assembly.

Staff Professional Learning: Teachers engaged in professional development on curriculum updates and best-practice teaching approaches to strengthen student outcomes.

Resource Organisation: Maths resources were carefully sorted and structured for easy access, with tailored materials introduced to enhance learning in the junior years.

We’re excited to build on this success in Term 2 as we continue making Mathematics engaging, accessible, and meaningful for all students! All of this has been accomplished while introducing and implementing a new Mathematics curriculum. Below is a link providing an overview of our new curriculum and the key changes that will enhance your child's mathematical learning.

Maths over the holidays

Here are some simple and enjoyable ways to keep your child’s maths skills sharp during the holidays!

  • Baking & Measuring: Get your child involved in the kitchen by measuring ingredients for recipes. You can also challenge them to double or halve the recipe!
  • Board Games & Card Games: Games like Monopoly, Yahtzee, or UNO are great for practising counting, strategy, and problem-solving in a fun way.
  • Time & Schedules: Plan a day out and work with your child to calculate travel times and how long different activities will take.
  • Puzzles & Brain Teasers: Encourage your child to try out number puzzles or brain teasers. You could even challenge them to create their own maths riddles for family members!
  • Online Fun: There are plenty of educational apps and games, like Times Table Rock Stars, that make practising maths exciting and interactive.

These activities offer a fun way to reinforce maths skills while enjoying quality time over the holidays!
