Junior School News

The Junior School has had a brilliant final two weeks of the term and has not slowed down in their growth or learning. From Prep to Year Two, students have been busy completing their final units of the term. We have been astounded by the rich and connected learning across each year level, as students have demonstrated and strengthened the knowledge they have gained and developed throughout Term One, which was evident in our consolidation during the final week.
A big part of developing our skills in both maths and literacy is ensuring students achieve automaticity in key skills. This focus on fluency has come to fruition in the final weeks of the term, with all classes diving into daily fluency sprints to ensure they master these key skills each day while also achieving small wins in their learning each lesson.
Please have a safe and restful holiday filled with quality family time and a special Easter, in preparation for hitting the ground running in Term Two. We’ll have our structure and routine down pat while ramping up our expectations to match the growing skills and stamina of our students.
Take a look at the many amazing adventures and experiences the Junior School has participated in during the final weeks of this term, as well as some of the unseen focuses and lessons the students greatly enjoy!
St Patrick's Day
Excitement and enthusiasm filled the air as we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, which is not only a special day for our faith but also for the big Irish family we have at Sacred Heart, both among staff and students. Miss Maloney filled our buckets with not gold, but overflowing entertainment at our St. Patrick’s assembly, where students showcased their great knowledge of Irish history and culture. What an amazing day to bring such fun and meaning to our week!
Buddies
The Junior School is filled with love and care through our wonderful buddy program, which fosters a strong sense of connection between the junior and senior year levels. It also provides students with another safe person to turn to for help, a friendly smile, a warm hug, or a quick check-in throughout the day. From sharing lunch to engaging in arts and crafts, even tackling maths together, the buddy program is a highly anticipated event every fortnight for all students and teachers involved.
Topic
During Term One, students loved diving into the fascinating world of living things through the “Staying Alive” unit! They discovered what living things need to survive and thrive, sparking their curiosity and wonder. Students explored the life cycles of amazing creatures like chickens, butterflies, and frogs, marveling at their incredible transformations. They enjoyed exploring the school playground, observing creatures in their natural habitat, and discussing how the environment affects the world around them.
Good luck to this superstar, as you embark on your exciting journey! We will miss you, but we can't wait to hear about your adventure and see you when you return for special visits. What an amazing student you are!
Specialists
Often, when asking students about the highlight of their day or their favorite learning experience, you’ll find that their weekly specialist lessons are the first thing on their minds! The opportunity to develop new skills and showcase their individual strengths shines in each specialist lesson. From belting out Disney theme songs in music to getting messy in art, specialist days are filled with laughter and huge smiles, as well as a bit of exhaustion from all the fun! We cannot thank our specialist teachers enough for the passion and hard work they bring to the Junior School.
Harmony Day
What a beautiful sense of community was captured during this year’s Harmony Day! Amid a sea of orange ribbons, kind words and actions filled the air, accompanied by valuable discussions about celebrating and respecting our differences and ensuring that everyone feels included in all aspects of our amazing school.
Stations of the Cross
The Junior School was mesmerized as they watched the senior students take on the annual Stations of the Cross, deepening our understanding of the story of Easter and its meaning.
Easter Bonnet Parade
We could not wrap up our school term without unwrapping a few too many Easter eggs and celebrating with the most colourful and passionate Easter Bonnet Parade. Between amazing dance moves and an unimaginable amount of glue, paper, and all things chickens and eggs, it was a brilliant way to end one incredible term. It truly showcased the magic of the Junior School!
We are so proud and grateful for all our students, staff, and families. We could not be more fortunate!
