Visual Arts: Yr.7, Yr.8, Yr.12

🔸Year 7 Art and Visual Communication (AVC) students have spent much of their time this term skillfully combining a variety of painting and drawing materials and techniques to create these beautiful paintings.  They drew their plants from real life examples, painted their backgrounds using watercolour, used the sgraffito technique with oil pastels and acrylic paint to create their patterned pots, and painted in their plants using a mixture of acrylic paint, paint markers and sharpies.

Eliza Schnieder...

In term 1 of Art Making and Exhibiting I have been focusing on the theme of life, death and evolution with surrealism. I've been more focused on incorporating mythological and fantasy type elements into my art work through full body figures.

My first painting in term 1 depicts a Slavic goddess that rules over winter and death linking in with my theme of rebirth. One thing that I disliked about this painting was that it didn't have enough contrast between the lights and dark. My second artwork done was a personal piece made with conte (Still in progress). I took inspiration from social media for the position of the figure and the anatomy of the legs. This piece is challenging because I've never worked with conte before, but overall I enjoy working with this medium because it went well with my techniques and methods of creating despite its messy medium.

Next term I'd like to focus on adding more colour into my pieces to expand my skills of working with the vibrancy of colours and how they interact.

'This term in  Art Making & Exhibiting, I’ve really enjoyed the creative freedom of photographing portraits and experimenting with different editing techniques. Researching photographers and discovering new inspirations has also been a highlight, helping me refine my own artistic vision.

However, there were challenges along the way - learning Photoshop was tricky at first, and getting comfortable with handling a camera took time. Not always having access to a camera made the process more difficult, but it pushed me to be resourceful.

Moving forward, I want to improve my Photoshop skills and develop a stronger understanding of composition and lighting in portrait photography. I’m excited to keep exploring new techniques and push my creativity even further!'

This year in Art Making and Exhibiting, I have enjoyed working with gouache and creating landscapes that I feel resonate with me and how I am feeling at the time.

Something I have found challenging would be creating an online exhibition. There are limited resources and websites to use that you can actually upload the artworks to and design the space yourself so I have struggled with finding the websites.  This year, I aim to improve my techniques with gouache and how to effectively find inspiration.
