Primary Year 3-6

The end of term has arrived in what feels like record time! We have enjoyed a mountain of learning and fun events, sport carnivals and crazy hair. At the end of today it will be time to down tools and find time to relax and re-energise in readiness for Term 2.

Year 5/6 Canberra Camp – A Trip to Remember!

From 17-21 March, our Year 5/6 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Canberra, immersing themselves in the history, science, and politics of our nation’s capital. They reflected at the War Memorial, tested their sporting skills at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), explored the wonders of Questacon, and gazed at the stars from the Mt Stromlo Observatory. Visits to the National Electoral Education Centre, the Museum of Australian Democracy, and Parliament House deepened their understanding of how Australia is governed, while the Royal Australian Mint and Geoscience Australia provided fascinating insights into our country’s resources. A special shout-out to Shannon for the fantastic commentary on the embassy bus tour, which gave our Year 5s a whole new appreciation for international relations!

Throughout the week, our students represented our school with pride, earning praise for their behaviour and enthusiasm. We were also lucky to receive a heartwarming visit from Mrs. Grant and her beautiful baby! A huge thank you to our incredible parent helpers—Dennis Stokes, Mark Bradshaw, Shannon Inness, and Casey Kiss - as well as our dedicated staff, Nic Liddell and Kellie Graham, who ensured everyone was well cared for. We also extend our gratitude to Mrs. Holt for stepping in for Mrs. Hurst and supporting our students throughout the camp. As Oska shared, “Questacon was the best! I loved the Earthquake House and the free-fall slide - it was so much fun learning through play!” And as Alex put it, “It was definitely a huge flex to miss school for a whole week! We had lots and lots and lots of fun - we hope we can go again!” A fantastic time was had by all, and we are so grateful to everyone who made this camp possible!   Lillian Rudd -  Yr 5 Teacher

A huge thank you to our students for being fabulous ambassadors for St Mary’s College - we were so proud of all of you.

As Camp co-ordinator, thank you so much to Lisa Glover and Kath Treble, our College nurses, for preparing all of our medical needs before we even left Seymour. Thank you to our classroom teachers -  Lillian Rudd, Jade Holt and Tony Falls - you made the whole experience wonderful by your care and concern for all the children. As Lillian said - our parent helpers were AMAZING - thank you !!

An extra special shout out to Russell and Johnny - our bus drivers from Seymour Coaches. They drove so carefully and professionally and were always ready and willing to help in any way they could. Thank you also to Daniel  from Seymour Coaches for all the preparation and organisation with the venues and accommodation.

Finally, thank you to all the parents for entrusting us with your children and providing support and encouragement at all times. It was a wonderful week in Canberra!

Following on from our camp, families joined us on Wednesday to view the slideshows the students had made about their time in Canberra. We also had Yr 3 /4 come and ask many great questions. Mrs Holt had spent time putting together all our photos and it was great fun to show the parents and Year 3 and 4 students  a photo show of our time in Canberra.

We finished off Wednesday with a visit from Mr Sam Birrell MP and Federal member for Nichols.  He spoke to the children about his role in the government  and generously  answered lots of well thought out questions from the students.  Thank you Sam for making time to visit us, especially during this busy time leading up to the election!  Cath Evans - Camp Co-ordinator

On Thursday, Grades 3-6 had the opportunity to practise their footy skills. Thank you to Bree and Damien (Murph) from Saint Mary’s Junior Football Netball Club for providing us with this wonderful experience.

Happy Easter everyone🐰. Take care if you are travelling on the roads and thank you for your support throughout this term.
